This is a position that works a flexible schedule based on program operation hours, ideally Monday to Friday. The pay is $11 -14 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. This position is onsite at our center located here in Palm Bay, FL – Brevard County 

Our Afterschool Counselors guide and help develop our youth in multiple facets of life including academics, communication, sociability, and independence. You’ll have the chance to work as a team member and be a role model for children by serving as a mentor and coach, facilitating outdoor activities, providing homework help, encouraging self-confidence, and more. The Afterschool Counselor also participates in outdoor games like kickball, dodgeball, soccer, and basketball with children.

What You’ll Do:
• Promote positive self-image by listening, responding, and encouraging independence 
• Lead by example and encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching
• Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to engage children and encourage social, cognitive, and emotional growth
• Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement
• Responsible for the supervision of children and management of a well-ordered classroom environment that ensures safety, cleanliness, and wellbeing.
• Guide children in self-regulation using Techniques from Conscious Discipline 
• Work with children in activities including both indoor and outdoor game 
• Participate in staff meetings, parent conference, and school functions.
• Assist children with homework 

What We Need from You:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Willingness to obtain DCF 45 hours within 90 days of employment 
• Must clear a level II background check
• Some professional early childhood training/experience
• CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), First Aid, and Fire Extinguisher Certification completion within 30 days of employment 
• Cheerful, enthusiastic, and engaging in the workplace 
• Demonstrate empathy and patience in demanding situations 
• Strong communication skills and technology use skills 
• Effective in communicating with both students and adults to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concern 
• Fluent in both English and Spanish is a Plus
