Job Summary:

The Lead Brewer is responsible for the daily brewing operations at Elephant & Co., Detroit. Beer production includes overseeing and producing quality wort while maintaining and managing a clean brewhouse and cellar throughout the brewing process (from grain to glass). This position reports to the Managing Director.

Performance Expectations and Essential Functions:

Wort Production and Fermentation Monitoring

Performing all aspects of the brewing process, including grain handling, mashing/lautering, boiling, whirlpooling, and knockout

Oversight and ability to carbonate beer to the desired volume and perform carbonation checks

Develop recipes for collaborative projects with breweries, non-profits, and accounts.

Analyze data to curate the tap list and provide comprehensive reports to the team.

Collaborate with the Managing Director to manage the tap list, employing data-driven decisions to ensure a diverse selection and promote top-selling items.

Follow CIP and SIP processes

Brew at other locations when needed, as well as assisting with canning runs

Cellaring

Participate in the cleaning and sanitation of brewing equipment and facilities.

Ensure cleanliness of work areas, equipment, and tools used in the production process.

Additional Responsibilities

Follow all SOPs and safety protocols

Demonstrate careful attention to detail

Complete tasks contained in the brewing schedule

Communicate clearly with the team throughout the day to maintain a positive workflow and work environment

Maintain raw material inventory and assist with the ordering

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Previous experience with Ohanafy, or similar brewery ERP
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficient in all aspects of brewing and cellaring
• Ability to work in all locations
• Computer proficiency with Google Workspace experience

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and be able to move kegs
