Elder Services of Okaloosa County is Hiring a Home Health Aide Near Crestview, FL

Job Summary:

Provide personal care, homemaking, & companionship services as assigned by the In-Home Services Program Supervisor/Case Manager. Have the ability to interact with clients and their families with sensitivity and patience. Requires good listening skills.

Job Functions:

Personal Care: Perform care activities contained in a written plan of care/task agreement by a health professional employee of the home health agency. Activities will include but are not limited to:

  • Bathing & Grooming: Help the client in and out of the bathtub or shower and be available to assist as needed. Perform bed baths to immobile clients. Assist with shaving, oral care, hair grooming, skin care and nail care.
  • Dressing: Help clients put on and remove clothing if they require assistance with this task.
  • Eating: Help with meal preparation and feeding of clients who need assistance in this area.

Ambulation/Physical Transfers: Provide physical support to enable the client to move about within or outside of the person’s place of residence. Physical support includes holding the client’s hand, elbow, under the arm, or holding on to the support belt worn by them to assist in providing stability or direction while the client ambulates. Provide assistance with physical transfers using verbal and physical cueing and/or physical assistance while the client moves from one position to another (example: bed, chair, wheelchair, toilet, bathtub, or shower to a standing position. Transfers may also include the use of a mechanical lift (you must be trained to use one).

Medication Reminders: Remind client it is time to take medication as prescribed. Assistance with any medication is strictly prohibited, you may remind only.

Other Duties: Light housekeeping/laundry and companionship as needed. Be willing to escort clients to the doctor, shopping, recreational outings or other personal appointments as requested by client.

HHA’s shall not change sterile dressings, irrigate body cavities such as giving an enema, irrigate a colostomy or wound, perform a gastric irrigation or enteral feeding, catheterize a client, administer medication, apply heat by any method, care for a tracheotomy tube, nor provide any personal health service which has not been included in the plan of care.

HHA’s are expected to report any unusual incidents, problems or changes in the client’s behavior to the In-Home Care Supervisor.

Education, Special Training and Experience:

Minimum of a High School or GED Diploma. Must have basic math abilities. Experience and/or training in working with the elderly and handicapped are preferred. Must be willing to attend a home health aide and a CPR class which will be provided at no charge to the HHA.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Read, write legibly, follow instructions, and keep accurate, chronological records as required by the position.
  • Must comply with random drug testing policy.
  • Accept training and supervision with a positive attitude.
  • Communicate well and adjust to a variety of life styles and the cultural/ethnic backgrounds of assigned clients and families.
  • Perform with a sense of pride within the team concept established by Elder Home Care.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid state driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain client confidentiality at all times.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to exert 50 pounds of force occasionally, 15 to 35 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount frequently to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects. Will require frequent bending, stooping and twisting. Physical demands are essentially those of moderately strenuous work.

Dress Code and Appearance:

Scrubs are the required attire and must be neat, clean and professional at all times. Must represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
