Quick Facts:

The IBCLC/Prenatal Health Educator is responsible for providing safe, patient center care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fully collaborative with the patient, patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. The IBCLC/Prenatal Educator is a member of the CPSP Enhanced Services team facilitating group instruction and individual education to pregnancy care patients at the Women’s Health Center, Baby Clinic and extended OB sites.

Duties Include:

  • Provides lactation assessment, management, education and instruction to patients at all sites.
  • Facilitates health classes for pregnancy, birth, postpartum lactation and parenting to pregnancy care patients.
  • Collaborates in development and implementation of new perinatal education, lactation program initiatives and grants.
  • Evaluates education needs of patients for effective behavior modification interventions.
  • Reviews education materials and collaborates in the development of educational tools to enhance patient education services.
  • Maintains full documentation patient assessments and plan of care for lactation quality of care and CPSP compliance.
  • Consults and collaborates with physicians, midwives and CPSP multidisciplinary team for complex needs in patient care.
  • Collaborates in internal and external referral coordination of patients including: San Jose Mother’s Milk (SJMMB), Women Infants and Children Program (WIC), Doula Agencies, Maternal Mental Health Now, and hospital network.
  • Fosters partnerships with community organizations to develop lactation support, education, and advocacy in line with Eisner Health’s mission.
  • Stays current with the latest research and development in lactation and parenting education.

Qualifications


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Certified Lactation Educator (CLE), Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC, CLES).
  • Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) preferred.
  • Doula certification is not required but preferred.
  • Bachelor degree in nursing, community health, public health, lactation or related field is preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Experience providing lactation education and direct patient care.
