EF Academy-International Boarding Schools is Hiring a Dean of Students Near Thornwood, NY

Dean of Students
The Dean of Students reports to the Deputy Head of the School for Residential Life and is responsible for setting and maintaining high standards in the creation and implementation of a comprehensive student life program, comprised of a thorough system of support, accountability, and education that ensures the well-being of students during their attendance at the school.

Professional Qualifications and Qualities
:
  • Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree preferred in educational administration, counseling or related field.
  • 3-5 years residential and/or school administration experience, preferably in a boarding school at the secondary level, including supervisory and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Prior global or international education and experience with diversity, inclusion, and social and restorative justice initiatives.
  • Commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents and willingness to embrace the opportunities of the boarding school environment.
  • Superior organizational, communication, and decision-making skills including attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure, and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to administer policies fairly and consistently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies including students, faculty, administrators, and parents.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the following departments and/or positions, working diligently with these colleagues to support students and create programs that foster health and well-being;
    • Deputy Head of Residential Life, Dorm Parents, and Residential Advisors
    • University & Academic Advisors
    • Health Center Staff, including Nurses & Counselors
    • Attendance Coordinator
    • Security Staff
  • Spearhead the student discipline and accountability systems, utilizing school systems, and coordinate all communication with parents/guardians, world-wide Admission offices, and supporting departments on campus (counselors, social workers, nurses, teachers, advisors, etc.).
  • Champion, coordinate, and manage the Discipline Committee, which convenes to hear cases involving rule infractions.
  • Work in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team to hire, train, and retain the best residential faculty; assist in the housing process and training of residential faculty.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team to monitor attrition, set enrollment targets, and coordinate the needs of incoming students. Collaborate with others on induction events for new students.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Deputy Head of School for Residential Life on the student handbook, system updates, accountability letters and forms, and parent communication.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Campus Director and the Director of Security to ensure upkeep and safety of dormitory and other student life spaces. This involves responding quickly to building needs and campus emergencies as they arise, as well as planning for emergency response situations (fire safety, lockdown drills, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time exempt residential role. The candidate must be willing to live on campus. The start date for the role is August 2024. Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000 / year DOE
