Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio (ESC of... is Hiring a Head Custodian -12 month Near Youngstown, OH

OAPSE transfer bid requests (internal application) will be accepted until 2:00 pm on 5/8/2024
Contract Terms: 12-month calendar;8-hours per day; eligible for health insurance benefits; monthly accumulated paid sick leave and vacation time; three (3) paid personal days per school year
Report Time: 6:00 am to 2:00 pm (evening hours and/or weekend call out hours in accordance with the OAPSE negotiated agreement)
Salary and Stipend: $16.12 starting rate; Additional Head Custodian Stipend of $2,076.84 for AMS
Position available due to the retirement of Emily Zokle


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, security, and safety of the building & grounds
  • Responsible for securing and opening the building
  • Operates and instructs custodial staff on job-specific machines and equipment
  • Instruct, direct and share in the work responsibilities within the building
  • Performs seasonal grounds keeping duties including assigned snow removal
  • Ensure the building and grounds are neat, clean & safe at all times
  • Supervises the preparations for special events and when after school activities are conducted
  • May perform a variety of assignments related to building and equipment maintenance work including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, locksmithing, carpentry, and painting
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Regulates ventilation, heating, and air conditioning equipment to maintain the proper ventilation, temperature, and humidity throughout the building
  • Performs all activities that are custodial in nature and deemed appropriate by Administration
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs of buildings, equipment, and grounds
  • Understand and follow safety procedures as provided by the district
  • Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities, and special events
  • Attends in-service training (e.g. blood-borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, maintenance training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures and implement practices to protect self and the environment
  • Cleans and maintains assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment
  • Inspects school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifying necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities
  • Repairs furniture and equipment as required (e.g. faucets, toilets, light fixtures, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition
  • Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, injured and ill students, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment
  • Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability to the organization
  • In the absence of the building administrator(s) and/or district administration will act as a representative of the board of education by receiving vendors and ensuring that the proper permits have been issued, and the vendors comply with the permits
  • Performing other duties as required as assigned by the principal, Facilities & Operations Supervisor, Superintendent, or designee

  • Ability to complete maintenance tasks, as required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule if necessary
  • Ability to perform and apply general mathematical computations
  • Ability to interact positively with a diverse population of students and adults
  • Ability to perform essential duties with little supervision
The successful applicant must have the following on file before they can begin:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current and favorable State and Federal background checks
  • Negative drug screen result
  • Successful completion of the skills test
SKILLS TEST WILL BE ADMINISTERED
The test will cover custodial, and general maintenance related skills required of the position.
Employees must follow all board policies, all state, and federal laws, and adhere to the Ohio Code of Ethics set up by the Ohio Department of Education. Subject to all applicable laws, essential job functions of this position include the employee being punctual and capable of completing all of the duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The successful candidate must complete any Vector/Safe Schools courses as recommended and assigned by the Administration.
