Educational Service Center of Central Ohio (ESCCO) is Hiring a Middle School Social Studies Near Columbus, OH

Description:
To develop in each pupil an appreciation of American ideals and cultural heritage; to develop proficiency in the use of social studies inquiry skill and concepts; to motivate each pupil to understand and exercise his/her rights, privileges, and responsibilities as a citizen to develop understanding of the geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors which influence the development of the world regions; to encourage pupils to develop sound opinions based on study of facts concerning operation of political and economic systems
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Teaches courses in social studies, history, geography, American government, utilizing curriculum designated by teacher using common core standards
  • Adapts Social Studies material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans that guide and challenge students.
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with Metro’s project based instructional philosophy and congruent with STEM learning ideals; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares and administers formative and summative assessments.
  • Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
  • Evaluates each student’s progress in meeting the course standards and provides remediation and intervention when necessary. This extra support may take place after school during teacher office hours.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  • Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Administers testing in accordance with state testing requirements.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  • Maintains professional competence by attending staff meeting regularly, staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
  • Participates in various student and parent activities.
  • Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

Salary:
Commensurate with experience and in accordance with Metro salary schedule
