Job Description

STRONG CANDIDATE IDENTIFIED

EDC’s Health Promotion, Practice, and Innovation (HPPI) portfolio has an opening for a Casual Prevention/Public Health Technical Assistance Associate, reporting to the Project Director. The HPPI portfolio includes projects related to trauma, violence and injury prevention, substance misuse prevention, problem gambling prevention, and suicide prevention. This position has a specific focus on substance misuse and problem gambling prevention, EDC priority areas of expertise.

EDC casual employees generally work as needed. A casual position receives statutory benefits of Social Security contributions, Medicare contributions, unemployment insurance, worker’s compensation insurance and sick leave. A casual position ends when work is complete.

You will:

  • Provide technical assistance and consultation to state and/or community prevention providers
  • Provide subject matter expertise to internal staff in the development of projects and resources
  • Contribute to the development of client-oriented technical assistance
  • Facilitate workshops designed for community prevention practitioners (virtual)
  • Serve as a sounding board for EDC Health projects and provide feedback to ensure products and TA are appropriate and responsive to best practices for engaging youth voices and adult voices.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on issues related to policy and regulation of legally-available substances

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree in Public Health or Public Policy

Skills & Experience:

  • 12 years related experience in Public Health or Public Policy
  • Experience using a public health planning process, such as the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF)
  • Ability to educate and inspire others
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and offer culturally and linguistically appropriate services
  • The ability to be flexible and adapt to the needs and learning styles of clients/communities
  • Comfortable with technology
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, both in-person and virtually, and take personal initiative
  • Availability to attend occasional community meetings outside of regular business hours
  • Expertise in youth engagement and/or policy

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working in substance misuse prevention at the local or state-level

This position offers an anticipated hourly base range of approximately $42 to $60. Salary offers are made based on market analysis and internal equity.
