    PRIMARY PURPOSE:
    The Area Director for Student Services must work closely with all Student Services and Curriculum and Instruction
    Directors, Coordinators, Supervisors, and Specialists to render technical assistance and direction to personnel employed
    under all special funded programs. The Area Director for Student Services will be responsible for the general operation of
    all federally funded programs as well as any other special funded programs as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
    He/she will also supervise the Guidance and Drug intervention programs, Social Services, and the Fine Arts department.
    He/she will also supervise the ECISD Department of Athletics.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education/Certification:
    Valid Texas Mid-Management Certificate required
    Valid Texas Superintendent’s Certificate preferred
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
    Exceptional communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
    Experience:
    Appropriate experience in school management
    Total of 10 yrs. in education and a minimum of 3 yrs. in administration required
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    Federal Programs
    • Assist in the planning and conducting of in-service and staff development programs.
    • Provide timely and effective oral and written communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community.
    • Acts as liaison between the school, community, parents and students directly involved in the program.
    • Maintain an ongoing evaluation of the program's effectiveness and recommends adjustments and changes as necessary within the framework of the funded projects guidelines.
    • Work with all instructional related central staff to provide support services to assigned schools.
    • Exhibit skills in planning, organizing and directing various activities that foster student and staff success.
    • Maintain a good relationship with personnel in all departments and campuses.
    • Assume a leadership role in building campuses and district staff morale and loyalty.
    • Demonstrate skills in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff and/or the community.
    • Respond appropriately to situations that could impair the teaching/learning process or could threaten safety and the well-being of students and staff.
    • Provide a leadership role in campus and district site-based decision making district wide.
    • Interpret board policies and administrative regulations to school staff and assists them in fulfilling their responsibilities to these policies and regulations.
    • Produce plans and procedures for ensuring that assigned schools have access to central office personnel for improving their own quality of performance.
    • Develop systems for administering the allocations of resources in areas of assignment.
    • Serve as Expulsion Committee Hearing Officer.
    Serve a Superintendent’s designee for Level II grievance hearings.
    • Approve requisitions issued by assigned schools.
    • Collaborate with program directives in securing funding and in developing proposals for additional programs.
    • Address concerns from students, teachers and other staff in the assigned schools.
    • Ensure that support services for students are effective in achieving their objectives.
    • Ensure that rules and procedures for discipline of students and staff are effective and conform to federal and state laws.
    • Ensure that the consequences for student and staff conduct are uniformly and consistently applied.
    • Attend Board Meetings and participates effectively as requested.
    • Use the district’s procedures for communicating with the media.
    • Maintain knowledge of current practices and trends relative to new teaching methods and school business
    management by reading current literature and attending appropriate conferences and seminars.
    • Exhibit punctuality and dependability in attending meetings and reading communication documents.
    • Effectively prepares various reports applicable to the position.
    • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
    • Assist with recruitment, selection, and training of personnel and makes sound recommendations relative to
    personnel placement, assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.
    Drug Intervention/Social Services
    • Supervise the operation of each department and reports the progress and effectiveness to Superintendent of Schools.
    Fine Arts/Athletic Department
    • Supervise the District’s Fine Arts Departments including all performing and visual arts.
    • Supervise the overall operation of all Athletic programs throughout the school district.
    Other
    • Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel
    WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
    • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district
    functions; maintain emotional control under stress; occasional district and statewide travel; occasional prolonged
    and irregular hours
