Edgewater Technical Associates is Hiring a Remote Communications & Security Systems Design Specialist

Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for Communications & Security Systems Design Specialist opportunities for our customer in Houston, TX and Greenville, SC to support Nuclear Power projects.
Work Location: in office in Houston, TX or Greenville, SC preferred.
A remote/hybrid arrangement may be considered.
Per Diem is available for those who quality.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Job Description
Under the direction of a Design Supervisor or Lead Designer, Design Specialist develops the design in areas where standards, methods, practices, and techniques are not clearly defined or are still in the process of development. Following project guidelines, Design Specialist is responsible for the solution of complex design problems which require a high degree of technical expertise for conceptual and design functions. Functions as a technical expert. The Responsibilities and Performance Standards listed below are the major and most common for the Design Specialist classification. This list of responsibilities may not include all the detailed duties required for every project. Therefore, to ensure a clear, mutual understanding between employee and Supervisor, employee's specific duties and/or those duties not covered by this list should be addressed and communicated to the employee by the supervisor.

Has a complete understanding of Communications & Security Systems drawings. Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist recognizes and resolves problems on drawings between design groups, follows resolutions through on all affected drawings and keeps other departments informed of equipment locations and space support requirements. Design Specialist is to refer all unresolved conflicts to a higher classification for resolution.
Interprets and applies codes, job procedures, standards and specifications.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist uses applicable codes, job procedures, standards and specifications and has interpreted, understood, and correctly applied them to the job.
Has a complete knowledge of materials and equipment. Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist has sufficient knowledge of Communications & Security Systems material and equipment (including a good understanding of Supplier catalogs) and uses this knowledge to design complex systems which conform to applicable specifications and codes.
Interprets and checks Supplier drawings and other discipline drawings for Communications & Security Systems needs and compatibilities of design.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist interprets the most complex Supplier data and other discipline drawings for Communications & Security Systems requirements and thoroughly checks for needs and compatibilities of design. Design Specialist is to bring to the Supervisor or Lead Designer's attention all noted discrepancies and recommended resolutions.
Performs design calculations.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist performs all calculations accurately and presents them in a neat, detailed and orderly form for use in design and checking. These calculations include, but are not limited to, the following: link loss, space allocation, tray fill, conduit fill, and breaker sizing. Records will be kept for all calculations.
Has a good understanding of Site Plans, Building Plans, Room Plans, Logic, Block, Wiring Diagrams, OSP, SCS, BIC, & Cable Schedules.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist has a complete understanding of Site Plans, Building Plans, Room Plans, Logic, Block, Wiring Diagrams, OSP, SCS, BIC, & Cable Schedules, symbols, operation, and their relationship to Communications & Security Systems design.
Performs complete design, layout, and checking of Communications & Security Systems drawings.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist accurately completes any assignment of design, layout, and checking of Communications & Security Systems drawings and ensures the technical correctness of the drawing by using the applicable job standards, specifications, area classifications, correct materials, and any other specific guidelines set forth for the job. Design Specialist will maintain good records and backup information to justify design. Unresolved conflicts will be referred to a higher classification for resolution.
Performs material take off.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist accurately and thoroughly lists material taken off of Communications & Security Systems drawings with no items missing.
Understands and utilizes Computer Software Applications.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist has a complete understanding of and utilizes the capabilities, applications, and operations of MSWord, Excel, Outlook, Microstation & AutoCad systems.
Provides field assistance as required.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist provides field personnel (at the jobsite) information to clarify drawings and resolve conflicts, including the preparation of additional sketches or drawings if required.
Assists in the development and training of personnel.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist shares knowledge and experience with less experienced employees to develop, train, and enhances their design knowledge and encourages improved work and safety habits, job skills, cost reduction methods, dependability, and attitude of others in the best interest of the employee and Fluor.
Assists Supervisor as required.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist assists the Supervisor or Lead Designer by completing all requests and assignments given by the Supervisor or Lead Designer and, additionally, helps in the preparation of progress reports, manpower forecasts, work plans, work assignments, drafting supervision, checking and solving major technical design problems.
Functions as a technical advisor.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist analyzes design elements for trends, technical feasibility, clients and or contractual requirements, incorporates new technical developments into current standards and procedures for area of specialty, and advises and assists Supervisors, Designers, and Engineers in solving problems.
Performs inspection of equipment as required.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist is able to determine, on inspection, that equipment conforms to specifications, purchase orders, and design requirements for the specific job application.
Functions as a Lead Designer when required.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist, functioning as a Lead Designer, ensures that good drawing quality is maintained, issue dates are met according to the control schedules, the job is properly organized, the work is efficiently delegated, employee counseling is performed as required, and all necessary reports including performance reviews, are correctly prepared.
Performs estimates.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist performs estimates in accordance with Fluor and/or client standards based on best available information. These estimates include, but are not limited to, the following: man-hour, cost, material, deviations, trends and drawing requirements.
Completes work in the time allotted.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist completes work assignments with a high degree of accuracy on or before a preset time allotted by the Supervisor or Lead Designer. If it becomes apparent that the assignment will extend beyond the time allotted, Design Specialist will promptly notify the Supervisor or Lead Designer.
Displays professional attitude and image.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist adheres to company policies and displays a professional attitude toward the Client, job, other Fluor disciplines, and Fluor.
Individual may perform work above or below this classification.
Aids in improving work process.
Performance is satisfactory when Design Specialist displays and participates in improving the work process.
Displays salesmanship.
Performance is satisfactory when the Design Specialist actively markets the Communications & Security Systems engineering discipline to both internal and external Clients.
