Edgerton, Inc is Hiring a Project Engineer Near Verona, WI

Edgerton is a premier, earthmoving, and underground utility company. We seek out opportunities where our depth of experience and creativity can add value, beyond the earthmoving phase, to the entire project. With skilled employees, cutting edge technology, and a forward-thinking approach, we take pride in our work and consistently exceed expectations.

Our employees and customers know that Edgerton is more than a company. We are a team of people with a shared culture. We value integrity, each other, and our customers. We communicate transparently with creative solutions.

Edgerton is offering an opportunity to work with our team at one of the largest construction sites in the country, Epic Systems corporate headquarters in Verona, WI. This position offers a fast paced highly collaborative environment between contractors, architects, engineers, and owner. You will work onsite at the Annex facility where all the contractors, architects and engineers work and collaborate from. You will report to the engineering manager generally but more specifically on this project you will report to the senior project engineer onsite.

List of Responsibilities:

  • Create electronic site models for estimating, planning projects, construction layout and guiding GPS Machine Control systems on our heavy equipment, using Trimble Business Center (TBC). These models are critical to the efforts of estimators, engineers, project managers, surveyors, and heavy equipment operators.
  • Supporting Preconstructions: All our material quantities are generated from the 3D model created inside TBC.
    • Quantities need to be calculated consistent with the estimator's project setup.
    • Quantities must be accurate, inconsistencies with engineers' quantities need to be reconciled.
    • 3D models need to be created to maintain OSHA safe excavation standards.
    • 3D models need to be created to illustrate challenging excavations; these need to communicate clearly to estimator to ensure proper costs are built into the estimate.
  • Project Engineering: The role of the project engineer exists to support our operators, supervisors, and project managers with the technical details of the project.
    • Create 3D construction models in TBC consistent with the plans and specifications of the project. These models will be loaded into GPS guided machines and survey equipment. These models must include all details of the project (i.e. curbs, curb ramps, swales, ponds, footing excavation, building mass excavation etc...). It is expected that the operators will build exactly what is in the model, being precise and accurate is required, no detail is too small.
    • Create 3D construction model in TBC from conceptual meetings and plans, communicate design details to engineer and push to field for construction. There are many times construction needs to happen at such a fast pace and there isn't time for the typical design then build path.
    • Proactively seek out and collaborate with other members of the team (contractors, architects, and engineers) to address issues of inconsistency or constructability, prior to Edgerton crews being mobilized to site.
    • Direct field surveyors to perform surveys used to calculate quantities and update as-built data. Calculate and maintain accurate records of all quantities. Survey as-built information is used by many other parties to ensure future designs are conflict free and to provide private onsite utility locations; accuracy is of the utmost importance.
    • Develop alternate designs to create a higher quality product for the owner and simplify construction for Edgerton.
    • Develop interim grading designs for constructing projects (i.e. ramps for deep foundation excavations, working platforms for revetment construction, interim grading to maintain drainage until final storm sewer controls are installed, Etc...).
    • Create simplified plan sheets to better communicate complicated details to supervisors and operators (i.e. color-coded foundation excavation plans).
  • Self-performed survey tasks to include:
    • Topographic survey's
    • Establish site survey control and create GPS calibrations
    • Total Station setup and use
    • Construction staking using GPS rover or total station
  • Develop a working knowledge of GPS machine control systems on our equipment. Minor troubleshooting and repairs to be self-performed.
  • Other responsibilities
    • Assist with the plan production of Edgerton's design build projects.
    • Create realistic 3D renderings for a variety of work (i.e. proposed designs, mass excavation sequences, utility construction) using InfraWorks, SketchUp, or similar software.
  • Continuous improvement pursuing the mastery of our CAD software: Trimble Business Center and Civil 3D (Autodesk Architecture Engineering & Construction Collection).

Personal Requirements

  • Calm focus on detail amid pressure.
  • Motivated by pride in quality work.
  • Motivated by solving problems for others.
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
    • This is the most important trait as everything we do needs to be presented simply and clearly to others without a technical background.

Experience Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Trimble Business Center experience, preferred.
  • Civil 3D experience, preferred.
  • Autodesk suite of products experience, preferred.

Education Requirements

  • We have openings for individuals with the following education.
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management
    • Associates degree, emphasis on CAD or Construction Management.
