Home is where life happens, where plans are made and futures begin. The foundation for dignity, health, education, wealth and community. Since 1982, we have invested $54 billion and created 873,000 homes across all 50 states – all to make home and community places of pride, power and belonging. Join us at enterprisecommunity.org. Working at Enterprise At Enterprise, you’ll be part of a diverse, committed team making a difference every day. You will collaborate with some of the smartest minds and biggest hearts in our field. You’ll be empowered to drive systems change and take bold steps to advance racial equity. And you will find a career home where you’re valued and supported in your growth journey. Enterprise offers career opportunities in our offices across the country with an exceptional benefits package. Job Description Summary As Enterprise enters its fifth decade, the need to narrate and uplift the national conversation around affordable housing, economic mobility, racial equity and climate resilience has never been more critical. Our structure – covering all aspects of the affordable housing marketplace – makes us uniquely positioned to reach new audiences and advance the cause of supplying more decent, safe, affordable homes for the millions of Americans without one. Reporting to the Senior Director of National Communications, the Communications Director East will be a leader/doer charged with shaping and executing communications initiatives for Enterprise’s Market Offices across the eastern half of the country, as well as for a portfolio of key programs and initiatives. The Director will serve as the principal liaison between those teams and the core national communications staff, drafting communications plans for major announcement, campaigns, publications, and other endeavors. They will be on the front lines of our day-to-day communications operations, partnering with other members of the communications team, as well as proactively pitching our work to reporters and influencers alongside our public relations firm. Job Description Responsibilities: The Communications Director East is the key communications leader for our Market Offices across the eastern half of the country (Southeast, Gulf Coast, Mid-Atlantic, Ohio, Central Midwest), as well as a portfolio of other initiatives and programs. In close partnership with program teams, they will develop communications plans around all major public-facing initiatives, publications, announcements and activities within their portfolio. They will be the primary contact point for a diverse group of leaders and staff across Enterprise, providing guidance and thought partnership on a wide array of projects. In particular, they will develop close relationships with Enterprise’s Market Leaders within their region, understanding their local needs and perspectives, and partnering with them to advance their work and the profile of their staff. The Director will be expected to travel regularly to meet with Market Leaders and their teams. The Director will have a laser-like focus on goals and audiences. They will develop plans that include achievable but ambitious metrics for success, creative approaches to reaching new audiences, and clear deliverables and timelines. While the Director will be able to call upon our bench of writers, social media leads, designers, and web developers, they will be just as comfortable plotting a national campaign as they are with drafting a Twitter thread, crafting an email pitch to a reporter, phoning a conference producer, or posting a publication to our website. The Director will also have a deep knowledge of the press and media relations. Working alongside a PR firm and internal experts, the Director will be able to evaluate projects for their earned media potential, pitch to reporters, write press releases, and craft compelling opinion pieces that position our experts as leading voices on the nation’s housing affordability crisis. Qualifications: Enterprise values candidates with diverse life experiences and backgrounds, but generally speaking, here’s what we’re looking for: Ten to 12 years of experience in public communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field Extraordinary writing and editing skills A can-do spirit, comfortable leading strategy sessions with the C-suite one day and writing a blog post the next A network of journalist contacts and an ability to cultivate influential reporters over the long term A track record of successful public communications campaigns or initiatives An ability to distill news, reports, events, and deal closings into language that is accessible, informative, and easy to read Knowledge of basic website content management systems and HTML Superior interpersonal skills and experience partnering across an organization and with outside stakeholders An understanding of Enterprise’s mission and goals (experience with housing or real estate may be helpful but is not required) A collaborative spirit and sense of humor Please submit a resume and cover letter through our online job application portal. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
