Eau Claire County is Hiring a Child Support Specialist Near Eau Claire, WI

Performs case management duties to assist the Child Support Agency (CSA) in meeting its program responsibilities. Work involves preparation and administration of: establishing, enforcing, and reviewing child support and medical support obligations, and establishing paternity for non-marital children. 
  • Provides information to custodial, non-custodial parents, and other interested parties
  • Reviews relevant statutes, regulations, procedures, and services available with parents and potential fathers, explaining the parties' rights and responsibilities
  • Explains the Agency's role in ensuring establishment of legal paternity and the obligation to support
    • If paternity is not yet determined, uses appropriate administrative and/or judicial methods to establish legal fatherhood
  • Conducts pre-trial conferences 
  • Determines appropriate support level prior to court hearings based on available information, attempting to reach stipulated agreements
  • Conveys CSA’s position regarding contempt of court and recommended purge conditions
  • Obtains and analyzes information regarding cases
  • Locates case participants and wages/assets through a variety of resources
  • Assesses availability of affordable, comprehensive, & accessible health insurance 
  • Implements actions to secure establishment and/or compliance with child and medical support obligations 
  • Maintains knowledge of and proficiency in operating the State of Wisconsin KIDS (Kids Information Data System) and multiple other data systems, such as CARES, DOT, Clear, Prism, Quick, and CCAP 
  • Works to enhance efficiency of case management through use of automated functions
  • Follows system protocols and procedures
  • Monitors cases and takes appropriate action 
  • Reviews support payment records, ability to pay, and other factors
  • Conducts order reviews for financial & medical support
  • Makes civil & criminal contempt referrals
  • Reviews and initiates administrative enforcement actions such as financial account seizure, license suspension, and lien/passport releases
  • Maintains accurate documentation on all client contacts
  • Logs mail correspondence & takes action
  • Completes written case summary & provides recommendations on all scheduled cases for Corporation Counsel’s review prior to hearings
  • Attends court hearings and testifies 
  • Provides back-up coverage for Specialists Performs other duties as required or assigned
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a human services related field OR and Associate degree in a human services related field and two years of experience in a Child Support Agency
  • Experience or training in personal computer use, and computerized database management and software
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks: 
    • Criminal background check 
    • Fingerprinting with a search of local, state, and national fingerprint records
  • Training or experience using the State of Wisconsin KIDS (Kids Information Data System) software
