WELD COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RE-2

POSITION TITLE: Health Tech

REPORTS TO: School Nurse

Position start date: 08/14/2024

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS​:
-High school diploma or equivalent
-Current Certificate for First Aid and CPR/AED training by position start date
-Completion of School Health Tech Training or evidence of equivalent experience preferred by position start date
-Demonstrated ability to accomplish basic office/clerical skills
-Ability to complete yearly medication training update

Starting salary range*: $16.50-17.98 per hour based on experience according to the '23-'24 Employment-At-Will Salary Schedule; ('24-25' Salary Schedule is pending board approval)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
At will employee. Work year and salary to be established by the Board of Education. Shall receive the benefits of sick leave, retirement, and the usual policies which apply to classified personnel. Hours to be determined based on student health needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Demonstrates the ability to use necessary screening and communication equipment and devices as required for the position. Demonstrates effective communication, scheduling and organizational skills. Demonstrates ability and willingness to learn computer programs necessary to position. Maintains thorough understanding of district and state policies, procedures and requirements associated with the position. Assists school nurse with program coordination as may be required. Demonstrates skills required to maintain student records and meet all state mandates. Demonstrates ability to give aid and comfort to those in need of health services. Demonstrates confidentiality in all matters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Under the Delegator clause, after receiving approved training from the school nurse, health techs are responsible for administering medication or performing procedures for students with specific health needs following physician orders/student’s individualized health care plans.

● Understands and follows school, district and state health policies and assumes responsibility for assigned duties. Keeps up-to-date with changes as they occur.

● Recertification for CPR/AED and First Aid as needed.
● Understands and respects the strict confines of confidentiality.
● Administers first aid to the sick and injured, using discretion in contacting parents, school nurse and emergency help as necessary in cases of major illness or serious injury. Prepares student to go home or be transported as necessary.

● Fills out incident/illness report on necessary cases and does follow-up.
● Confers with the school nurse regarding students’ absences for health reasons, communicable or nuisance disease, injury, or hospitalizations.
● Confers with school nurse regarding any concerns about immunizations, medications, illnesses, injuries, screening results, etc.
● Reports safety hazards and practices universal precautions.
● Creates and maintains all student health files and immunizations records; performs any record keeping tasks associated with the position; operates business machines and related office equipment. Familiar with
Microsoft Word and Excel. Receives training on new computer data programs, as necessary.

● Maintains a clean and orderly health office. Takes regular inventory of clinic supplies and restocks as needed.

● Assists the school nurse in scheduling and performing annual first-of-year screening procedures; schedules and performs any re-screens that are needed, informing parents by letter of child’s referral; follows up on referrals which were sent. Notifies teachers of student referrals. Performs screenings on new students throughout the school year, notifying parents, teachers and school nurse if a referral is made. Records all screening and referrals on student’s health cumulative file.

● Records health office visits, the students’ symptoms, and the disposition made. Inputs into school computer program daily. Informs school nurse as necessary. Compiles monthly and year end statistics on health room activity. Creates reports for these and other statistics as needed.

● Maintains bulletin boards in the health office.
● Assists on field trips and overnight trips as medical needs arise.
● Gives assistance to school secretaries when needed.
● Remains flexible and accepts other duties as assigned.
