JOB TITLE: Director of School Operations
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
JOB GOAL: The Director of Operations will lead a restructuring effort while leading and managing a team of business-related personnel as well as custodial staff. This person must be driven and hard-working and motivational to maximize the skills and talents of the team. The Director of Operations will have to create a productive working environment built on trust while at the same time holding individuals accountable for their job responsibilities. They will need to conduct weekly meetings, provide goals for their team, conduct yearly performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to help the team grow while meeting all business- and HR -related needs of the school and Foundation

OVERVIEW: Founded in 1997, EastSide Charter School is a free, public elementary school that educates students in Wilmington, Delaware. EastSide prides itself on being a community-based school, using multiple partnerships, strong relationships with families, and a dedicated and hard-working faculty to ensure academic success for its students. Serving over 400 students in grades K though 8 EastSide is in the midst of a dynamic turnaround effort that will have a profound impact in Wilmington. Staff members play a significant role in ensuring that our students develop the character and skills necessary to being an influential and contributing member of the community and global society. This position is suited for someone who is willing to do "Whatever it Takes" to support our students in being successful in school and in life.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The Director of Operations will:
  • Manage the daily operations of the business office primarily in the areas of financial management
  • Lead and evaluate employees in the business office and well as full/ part-time custodians
  • Ensure that all financial management activities are carried out in compliance with applicable school, state, and federal regulations
  • Complete monthly finance reporting for school finance committee's review
  • Project management for state and federal grant activities and close-outs
  • Enter Payroll for staff of 65 full/part-time employees
  • Perform final transaction approval for accounts payable and state procurement cards
  • Responsible for assisting auditors in annual finance audit
  • Manage facilities and building-related issues
  • Negotiate and maintain outside vendor contracts
  • Other tasks as required by the Head of School
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in business, accounting, finance or related field.
Experience:
  • At least two years of management experience
  • At least two year equivalent work experience fulfilling the requirements of the major responsibilities and duties of the position.
Skills/Traits:
The Director of Operations must:
  • Have experience working with a State of Delaware reporting systems (PHRST, FSF, DEEDS)
  • Have a high level of proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word
  • Be willing to attend meetings after school hours on and off-site
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Work independently and with a diverse team on short and long-term projects
  • Act entrepreneurially as an initiator, problem-solver, creative thinker, and be self-directed
  • Possess strong written communication skills
  • Be driven to improve the minds and lives of students from underserved communities; dedicated to doing whatever it takes to help all students achieve academic success
  • Be self-aware and know how to treat all members of the school's community with respect, appraises accurately his or her strengths and weaknesses, and is perceptive about how he or she is regarded
COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:

Length of Work Year: 12 month employee

Salary and Benefits: Salary range is commensurate with qualifications and experience. EastSide Charter School offers a friendly and committed team of colleagues and a comprehensive benefits plan.
