Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting the financial operations of the company including daily accounting duties, planning, financial analysis, audit support, and other financial matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described. 

  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Assist the Accounting Department in Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual closing process ensuring all work is accurate and completed on a timely basis.
  • Oversee the Accounts Receivable and Billing processes.
  • Maintain internal reporting systems and is responsible for the overall consolidation of the financial results. Ensure the timely completion of standardized reporting packages which provide actual and projected financial results.
  • Actively participate in the annual financial audit, including work paper preparation. Serve as a primary liaison of the annual audit process from planning and scoping, to the issuance of the annual report.
  • Oversee the accounting close process and continuously improve processes to scale with the organization. Develop, implement, and maintain Accounting policies, procedures, and guidelines for company financial and reporting systems.
  • Provide interpretation and application of accounting procedures, principles, and pronouncements in accordance with GAAP and DFARS.
  • Contribute to the development of cross-functional processes/and or structures that improve the efficiency and timeliness of financial reporting within the organization.
  • Formulate policy and process recommendations that support and enhance the Company’s goals and objectives and provide the appropriate allocation of resources.
  • Establish and nurture highly effective relationships with employees, customers, and stakeholders that support and advance business goals and objectives.
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards, and ensure compliance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.

Job Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field plus 5 or more years of proven Accounting experience. Requires a strong background in financial accounting and a solid understanding of cost accounting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Working knowledge of regulatory standards (GAAP) (DFARS) (FAR) is preferred.

Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required. Working Knowledge of Deltek Costpoint is a plus. Proficient in the use of technology and automation to achieve overall business goals. Ability to read and interpret documents such as Company policies/procedures, general business periodicals, professional documents, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, government officials, and the public. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment and have an attention to detail.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
