Job Summary
The Physical Therapy Department in the College of Health, Science & Public Health is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for a Program Specialist 2.
The Program Specialist 2 is responsible for the planning, coordination, development, communication, implementation and oversight of specialized programs, functions, and components unique to the Clinical Education (CE) Program in the Eastern Washington University (EWU) Department of Physical Therapy. They act as program liaison and will apply specific CE Program job knowledge that is not transferable to other areas within the DPT program or to other EWU departments or programs.
The Program Specialist 2 will assist the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) with specialized needs of the CE Program in the EWU Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree program. They will provide service to students throughout their enrollment in the 3-year program (approximately 120 in the program).
This individual must be highly organized and detail oriented. They must be able to self-determine and direct work requirements, plan, organize, achieve deadlines, exercise independent reasoning and decision making, analyze problems, use discretion, and keep confidentiality. They will access and interpret policies and procedures specific to the Clinical Education Program. They will interact daily with the DCE; EWU DPT faculty, students, staff, and administrators; other departments at EWU; Site Coordinators of Clinical Education (SCCEs), Clinical Instructors (CIs), and contract administrators at clinical sites in the community; and other outside entities.

  • At least two years of administrative or managerial experience, including responsibilities for program operations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree – additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis.
  • Proven experience in managing large databases and data entry procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to ensure clear and concise messaging to students, clinical sites, and other stakeholders.

Clinical Education Programmatic Responsibilities:
  • Utilize delegated authority to make and implement plans, decisions, and commitments in areas related to the management and interpretation of policies, procedures, and necessary tasks within the CE Program.
  • Independently evaluate and solve day to day program operations procedural issues and/or recommend solutions and/or make changes necessary to conduct business pertinent to the CE Program and for the DCE.
  • Direct, initiate, and maintain CE affiliation agreements (contracts) between clinical facilities and EWU for more than 300 clinical sites.
  • Manage a large database containing clinical site information, student demographic information and compliance documents, clinical placements, and related data.
    • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data by conducting regular audits and verification processes.
    • Develop and implement efficient data entry and retrieval procedures to optimize the database management process.
    • Request and track clinical site placements for students, ensuring timely and effective communication with both students and clinical sites.
    • Generate accurate and comprehensive reports based on database information to support program evaluation, decision-making, and compliance requirements for Accreditation of the DPT Program by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) and other entities.
    • Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information in accordance with relevant policies and regulations.
  • Determine compliance requirements, coordinate programs, advise students, and monitor DPT student status to assure student compliance with requirements of EWU and contracted clinical sites including, but not limited to:
    • Certification programs including but not limited to First Aid, CPR, HIPAA, HIV/AIDS, and Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP).
    • National and Washington State Patrol WATCH background checks
    • Immunizations.
    • Drug screening.
  • Facilitate timely onboarding of students to clinical sites, using electronic communications and various online platforms, to assure student compliance with each site’s requirements.
    • Communicate requirements to students and advise them.
    • Serve as liaison between the student and the clinical site.
  • Advise students throughout the academic program.
    • Database navigation to upload compliance documents, access clinical site information, and complete assignments.
