Easter Seals Massachusetts is Hiring a Speech Language Assistant / Assistive Technology Near Worcester, MA

Speech Language Assistant
Full Time – 35 hours/week

Are you someone who is passionate about Augmentative Communication and Assistive Technology? Are you interested in working with individuals across the lifespan in various settings? Are you someone who enjoys variety in their schedule and opportunities to experience new situations? Do you want to make a difference in someone’s life?

This hybrid position combines the responsibilities of a speech-language assistant, providing augmentative communication services under direction of a certified speech-language pathologist, and those of an assistive technology specialist. The staff member will provide itinerant evaluation, training, and technical support services related to the use of both assistive technology and augmentative communication in the community to children and adults with varied disabilities.

Essential Functions:

Augmentative communication services:

  • Collaborate with a certified speech-language pathologist on assessment, device trials, equipment set up, training and technical support for individuals in need of augmentative communication services
  • Familiarity with general augmentative communication strategies and systems
  • Familiarity with current voice output communication aids and their features


Assistive technology services:

  • Perform comprehensive evaluation of client’s needs for adaptive technology
  • Establish a plan of implementation with realistic, objective goals
  • Educate client and caregivers in appropriate intervention techniques to promote successful outcomes
  • Coordinate equipment requisitions with clients, funding agencies and other interested parties, and provide installation of equipment as needed.


General:

  • Provide consultation services to clients and contracting agencies regarding augmentative communication and assistive technology both by phone and in person
  • Maintain appropriate documentation based on professional practice, regulatory requirements, Easter Seals policies and procedures, contracting agency requirements and third party payor guidelines


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in speech-language pathology
  • Valid/current professional license as a Speech-Language Assistant in Massachusetts
  • Must be able to work independently. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Past experience with providing AAC services and supporting users preferred
  • Ability to travel to/between multiple work locations
  • Must be able to transport and deliver equipment
  • Must pass extensive background checks and provide professional references
  • If selected for hire, candidates must be able to provide a recent physical indicating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without accommodations, proof of negative TB test, and required immunizations (including fully vaccinated status for Covid-19).
