Position Type: Part Time
Salary Range: $20.50 - $21.00

Description

The Animal Care Coordinator Dublin (ACC) is responsible for the initial intake, behavioral and medical assessment of animals transferred to the East Bay SPCA. The ACC also provides professional and courteous adoption counseling, conducts owner surrender evaluations, foster appointments, and shares information about East Bay SPCA’s diverse programs and services to the public. This position interacts with potential adopters to identify suitable matches between families and animals, assists with inquiries throughout the adoption process, and provides routine post-adoption support. The ACC is responsible for husbandry (feeding and cleaning), disease control in all assigned habitats and kennels and overall welfare of animals in our shelter.

Qualifications


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, daily animal husbandry, such as diet preparation, feeding, cleaning, and housebreaking for shelter animals and dog boarding.
  • Conduct playgroups and customized training plans as desired from the Behavior and Training department.
  • Perform initial physical exams and behavior evaluations of incoming cats and dogs.
  • Initiate and maintain animal records (paper and electronic) in an organized, systematic manner.
  • Deliver excellent customer service while processing adoptions, returns, surrenders, foster appointments and during other client interactions.
  • Facilitate adoptions: show animals, counsel potential adopters and process adoptions paperwork.
  • Conduct owner surrender evaluations and offer diversion resources in the best interest of client and animal.
  • Answer questions and share information with the public about East Bay SPCA’s programs and services.
  • Prep and complete foster appointments as scheduled.
  • Provide feedback to supervisory staff regarding animal plans (behavior modification, surgery, foster, adoption, euthanasia).
  • Administer vaccines, treatments, medications, and perform antibody/antigen tests as needed.
  • Assist with training and supporting volunteers.
  • May be required to transfer animals between all East Bay SPCA campuses and offsite locations (fleet vehicle provided or mileage reimbursement if using personal vehicle).
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

Qualifications

  • Animal care knowledge of domestic animals including breeds, behavior, appropriate care and housing, common health problems, disease symptoms, and handling techniques.
  • Minimum one-year experience working with animals. Experience in an animal shelter setting highly desirable.
  • Competent in basic veterinary procedures, such as venipuncture, administering vaccinations, and administering oral medications strongly desired.
  • Proven organizational skills and effective communication.
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in an active, dynamic environment.
  • Treats all animals humanely, with compassion and concern, both on and off the job.
  • Competent animal handler.
  • Multilingual fluency desired.
  • Pre-employment background check and drug screening clearance required.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation, a valid CA driver’s license and evidence of insurability required.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an animal shelter environment at Oakland and Dublin facilities with exposure to seasonal outdoor conditions.
  • Must be competent handling dogs and cats of all sizes, ages, and temperaments.
  • Weekend work required; must be available to work evenings and holidays, as needed.
  • Animal contact and related injuries, including bites and scratches, may occur.
  • May occasionally handle sick, injured, or deceased pets.
  • Noise exposure varies and often includes uncontrolled barking and other animal vocalizations.
  • Animal waste contact, smells and visual exposure are prevalent.
  • Occasional lifting up to 75 lbs. with reasonable accommodation.
  • Frequent walking, bending, and stooping in kennel and adoption areas.
