East Bay Medical Group and Alameda Health System (AHS) are recruiting a new Chair for the Department of Orthopaedic surgery. The AHS Department of Orthopaedic surgery is a diverse department with broad subspecialty representation that serves the patients and community of Alameda county. The Department currently provides coverage to 3 acute care hospitals across the system including the level 1 trauma center for the city of Oakland and the broader East Bay. The ideal candidate is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with 10 years of clinical experience and subspecialty training in Orthopaedic trauma. Other subspecialties will be considered based on the current composition of subspecialties within the existing Department. Previous leadership experience is required and prior practice experience in a county hospital or safety net is preferred. The current Department of orthopaedic surgery has 3 divisions including Orthopaedic surgery, podiatry, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation along with Physician Assistants across the system.
Highland Hospital (level 1 trauma center) is also a primary clinical site for the San Francisco Orthopaedic residency program (SFORP) with 3 residents present per rotation. The SFORP residency is based in San Francisco with a total of 15 residents in the 5-year program. The service spans 5 different clinical sites for the program with Highland hospital providing the resident’s principle training in acute trauma. In April of 2016, Highland opened a brand new, state-of-the-art 9-story, Acute Care Tower. Since its founding, the organization has been a vital community asset, which embodies a core mission of “Caring, Healing, Teaching, Serving All.” The heart of its mission is to promote wellness, eliminate disparities, and improve and maintain the health of residents of the diverse communities of Alameda County.
