Team Lead - Opr I - Eagle Ext

Basic Scope/Purpose: (The job’s primary purpose or contribution to the department or organization.)

The Operator will set up, operate, and monitor extrusion machines and secondary machines to produce a wide variety of belting products as well as utilize automated equipment to produce endless belts to meet the expectations of the customer.

**This position has potential for career progression through 3 levels.

Principal Accountabilities: (The job’s essential or most important functions and responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)

Level 1 Operator:

  • Understands all JSA’s associated with the specific task, equipment or procedure being performed.
  • Complies with ISO work instruction standards that have been trained and signed off.
  • Understands how and when to move raw materials from staging area to the dryer vessels and to move finished goods out of the production area. (Secondary operation, fabrication or shipping). Executes the task reliably as part of the daily job functions.
  • Identifies and labels raw material containers, gaylords and barrels, preps materials for drying and processing. Understands and executes pre-staging of resins for upcoming shifts.
  • Passes testing and maintains a current Fenner Drives forklift license.
  • Sets up and tears down extrusion lines (Crosshead, Dies and other tooling as required), safely, properly, and within accepted time standards. Understands how to inspect the tooling prior to setup to ensure a successful setup can be achieved.
  • Reads and interprets product prints.
  • Runs a variety of products to print.
  • Processes a minimum of one secondary production process – Driver Pad Drilling.
  • Reads instruments, gauges and Mylar (dial calipers, micrometer, etc.), and performs quality checks as determined by the Work Order inspection sheet, or Control Plan document.
  • Sufficient understanding of extrusion processing and equipment basics to make adjustments to lines in order to make product to specification. Recognizes the cost of scrap.
  • Understands and follows packaging standards, including proper spooling, correct box size, pack quantities, labeling, label placement, etc.
  • Performs housekeeping duties (organizing, sweeping, cleaning and dumping trash) on a regular basis as part of the daily work tasks, and as assigned by scheduling or your supervisor. Performs 6S audits and follow-up tasks in order to keep the work areas safe, clean and efficient.
  • Fabricate high quality standard o-rings utilizing automated equipment and fabricate special profile belts manually to required specifications.
  • Proficiently butt weld and recognize quality of weld.
  • Makes accurate and timely entries in the DSI shop floor control system.
  • Maintain and promote Fenner Precision Polymers Values and Behaviors at all times.

Level 2 Operator:

  • Demonstrates and is able to maintain effectiveness in all Level 1 accountabilities.
  • Requires limited assistance in setting up and tearing down extrusion lines (dies and downstream) on all products, including Driver Pad, TEB, Key, and other complex profiles.
  • Can successfully run complex profiles such as Driver Pad, TEB, Key and others.
  • Understands how to set up and run secondary equipment, including Driver Pad Driller, Granulator, TEB Welder, and Brander.
  • Able to set up and run cogging and STS secondary operations.
  • Excellent knowledge of the use and care of all tooling and equipment.
  • Responsible for recognizing production issues, evaluating conditions, recording and reporting conditions and other pertinent information, and communicating issues on shift reports. Recognizes when to call for Maintenance assistance, including off-shift call-ins as necessary.
  • Performs Operator PM Maintenance on machines within trained and established guidelines.
  • Proficiently runs extrusion lines with minimal assistance from experienced operators.
  • May be asked to run more complex products like Driver Pad, TEB, Ride Guide, Key, etc., with assistance from a trained operator.
  • May assist in training as directed by supervisor or Team leader on areas based on competency matrix.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities.
  • Capable of cleaning and maintaining tooling, screws, and equipment.

Level 3 Operator:

  • Demonstrates and is able to maintain effectiveness in all Level 1 and 2 accountabilities.
  • Is able to setup, run, and tear down Driver Pad, TEB, Key, and other complex profiles.
  • Understands how to setup and run secondary equipment, including Driver Pad Driller, Cogger, Granulator, TEB Welder, Brander, and the STS line.
  • Understands how to troubleshoot the processes and actively works to minimize scrap and downtime.
  • Proficiently runs all extrusion lines and is able to troubleshoot and help others.
  • Responsible for initiating recommendations regarding improvements to increase safety, quality and productivity and may be asked to help develop or implement the solutions.
  • Runs WR and/ or WE runs, with appropriate level of documentation under the guidance of Process Engineering.

Education and/or Relative Experience: (The level of education and/or experience needed to successfully accomplish the essential duties of this job.)

Level 1 Operator:

  • This position requires a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing work and machine operation environment.
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate good mechanical aptitude and skills.

Level 2 Operator:

  • Requires 2-3 years of experience

Level 3 Operator:

  • Requires 3-5 years of experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (The licenses, certificates or registrations that are required to perform the essential duties of this job.)

  • Tow motor license (training provided by Fenner Precision Polymers)

Team Lead Addendum

Basic Scope/Purpose: (The job’s primary purpose or contribution to the department or organization.)

Responsible for identifying potential hazards in the work place and reporting them for entry in our Near Miss or Hazard ID database.

Productivity 3: Responsible to keep production running within established guidelines, work instructions and according to the schedule and/or direction of management.

The Team Leader provides general supervision of direct reports and schedules and provides guidance for daily activities. The Team Leader utilizes resources to the fullest potential to produce exceptional quality products, create a customer focus and sense of urgency in order to achieve World Class customer service.
