About the position:

E Ink is seeking a creative scientist or engineer to join a team making innovations in display driving methods for electrophoretic display systems. You will be primarily responsible for devising and developing novel drive schemes to support the adoption of E Ink displays in new applications. Achieving this goal requires making advances in the fundamental understanding of electrophoretic display systems interaction. In addition, you will support new display product development through the creation of core test methods and in-depth analysis of electro-optical performance. Activities include creating and executing electro-optical experiments, developing algorithms for driving E Ink displays, and performing in-depth analysis of display performance. As a key team member, you will be expected to take on challenging exploratory projects that lead to product improvement and new products in a culture of open review and critical discussion. E Ink maintains a lean team where each member has strong visibility and responsibility to meet company goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new display algorithms for novel device applications
  • Expand fundamental understanding of electrophoretic display systems interaction
  • Perform statistical analysis and build computational physic models to understand electro-optical phenomena and to study behavior of display materials
  • Create and execute electro-optical experiments to characterize display performance
  • Develop technical strategies for commercialization of display algorithms
  • Investigate root causes of observed display phenomena, including data mining and full systems analysis
  • Develop plans to achieve technical goals and to align them with corporate priorities
  • Create and document intellectual property

Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Math or a related field plus four to nine years of industrial experience, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Math or related field plus two to five years of industrial experience
  • Experience analyzing complex systems using advanced mathematical methods for solving practical problems
  • Expertise in one or more of the following or related areas: optimization methods, machine learning tools, computational physics, and signals and systems
  • Programming experience required: strong preference for proficiency with Matlab, and/or Python
  • Familiarity with using deep learning/neural network modeling tools
  • Basic experience with electronic devices and laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and function generators
  • Self-directed, motivated, and hands-on personality
  • Excellent troubleshooting, teamwork, communication, and strategic development skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience working collaboratively with diverse teams
