Duquesne University is Hiring a Network Analyst – Computing and Technology Services (CTS) Near Pittsburgh, PA

Housed within the Computing & Technology Services (CTS) department, the Network Analyst position is a member of the Network and Telecommunications team. This position is a member of a team of six Network Engineers and Network Analysts who report to the Manager of Network and Telecommunications. The Network and Telecommunications team provide broad-based support of the Duquesne University wired and wireless networks, Internet connectivity and fiber infrastructure.

As a member of the Computing and Technology Services organization (CTS), the Network Engineer supports the service goals, metrics, strategies, policies, procedures, and project plans of the Central IT Organization.

The Network Analyst role is to ensure the stability and integrity of the university's network. This is achieved by assisting in the planning, design, and development of the campus network (LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi) and the services provided via the network (as examples; Voice over IP or VoIP a planned replacement for the campus telephone service and IPTV an augment to our cable TV service in the Living Learning Centers), including monitoring and providing technical support in the day to day operations of the campus infrastructure.

In addition, the Network Analyst will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network / telecommunication hardware, software, and communication links. This work includes maintaining an inventory of network I telecommunication property and assets.

Preparing and maintaining networking documentation and network & cabling layouts.

Analyzing and resolving network hardware and software problems; responding to IT Service Desk telephone calls, emails, and personal requests for technical support in a timely manner; troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and VPN related problems; and report on the operational status of the campus network.

The Network Analyst will work within the policies of CTS and Duquesne University. The position will consult with the Manager of Network and Telecommunication Services or the Director of IT Infrastructure Services on all personnel issues and concerns. Large projects are to be researched, chartered and planned with CTS management.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tier 2 network and telecommunication support for the campus community. Tier 2 are complex issues dealing with infrastructure hardware and software components (switches, routers, wireless, internet connectivity, etc.)

Assist in managing the tickets in TeamDynamix (problem/incident workspace).

Assist in monitoring the health and performance on the network/telecom components and coordinate annual network switch upgrades (wired/wireless).

Assist with the system administration of the LAN, WAN Wi-Fi and VoIP services.

Assist in managing/maintaining the network and telecommunication equipment inventory.

Administration of the Mitel Portal (adds, moves, and changes).

Maintain the student network technicians work schedule.

Travel is required in this position.

The position requires lift and install network and telecommunication equipment. Also, climbing a ladder to install cabling and/or hang access points.

Completes other duties as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Associate’s degree Computer Network Systems from an accredited institution

Network/Telecommunications training or certifications and 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience

Telecommunications fundamentals required

Voice Over IP and Unified Communications Fundamentals required

Valid Driver’s license

Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field from an accredited institution

Alcatel Switch/Wireless Certification (or other Network Vendor certifications)

Five years of experience preferred

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

The Network Analyst spends the majority of time resolving connectivity problems reported through Footprints (problem incident). The Network Analyst spends time on troubleshooting to resolve the issue; requiring a high skill level of analytical, technical, problem solving, collaboration and customer service attributes.

The Network Analyst position requires the skill and ability to analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems, respond to IT Service Desk telephone calls, emails, and personal requests for technical support in a timely manner; troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and VPN related problems; and report on the operational status of the campus network.
