The Dembowski lab at Duquesne University in the Department of Biological Sciences is hiring a laboratory technician. The candidate would be responsible for conducting experiments, general lab maintenance, and ordering. The candidate should be organized, reliable, and able to work independently after some initial training.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General lab maintenance. Conduct lab chores and coordinate with work study student. Maintain lab inventories, order reagents, contact vendors and sales representatives, prepare and maintain stock solutions, cell lines, and viruses. Maintain equipment and coordinate repairs and vendor maintenance.
General lab organization. Maintain biohazard SOP, maintain chemical inventory and waste removal, organize lab meeting schedule, maintain lab website, attend all lab meetings, coordinate undergraduate student schedules and training, maintain cell line, virus, and bacterial logs.
Conduct experiments related to aims outlined in NIH grants, maintain an organized laboratory notebook, intellectually contribute to ongoing projects, help students with cell line maintenance while attending conferences and during academic year as needed, generating cell lines and virus strains.
Help to purchase new equipment and computers for lab.
Positively represent the Dembowski lab at departmental seminars, retreats, receptions, and other events.
Completes other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or related field and 1-2 years of laboratory experience with molecular and cell biological techniques.
Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Virology preferred.
Experience with gene cloning, PCR, western blot analysis, and aseptic techniques is preferred but not required.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
