Dunbar Community Counseling Services is Hiring a Behavior Specialist Near Philadelphia, PA

Dunbar Community Counseling Services is looking to hire a Behavior Specialist Consultant in West and Southwest Philadelphia.
GENERAL OVERVIEW OF KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:This doctoral or master’s level mental health professional position provides behavioral intervention consultation services to the treatment team for a child or adolescent with a serious emotional disturbance who may need special behavioral management protocols. These services are designed to be consultative in nature, rather than direct service to the child or family.
Essential and Core Functions:Specific responsibilities of the Behavioral Consultant in the school/ home/ community setting include the following:
  • Observation of the child in the home/school setting as part of the initial assessment in preparation for designing the intervention plan.
  • Development of the intervention plan and instruction to the other member of the treatment team (including the teacher, teacher’s aides, other school personnel, family, or other designated individuals providing direct services or supports to the child) in their roles and responsibilities in implementing of the plan. Revision of the intervention plan as needed, using the same methods as were used in the initial development.
  • Collaboration with the interagency team so that the school, home, and community behavioral plans complement each other.
  • Consultation to the treatment plan as needed, using the same methods as were used in the initial development.
Individual Services Provision A behavior specialist shall provide only the following services: 
  • Behavior consultation services consist of clinical direction of services to a child, youth, or young adult; development and revision of the ITP; oversight of the implementation of the ITP and consultation with a child’s, youth’s or young adult’s treatment team regarding the ITP.
  • Assessment of behavioral needs.
  • Design and direction of the implementation of behavioral interventions in the ITP.
  • Identification of behavioral goals in measurable terms and selection of appropriate interventions for inclusion in the ITP.
  • Review, analysis and interpretation of data to determine any changes to goals and objectives included in the ITP.
  • Consultation to mobile therapists or BHTs on behavioral management protocols.
  • Review of clinical outcomes for the behavioral interventions being implemented in the treatment plan with the youth, young adult, or parent or caregiver of the child to determine effectiveness of the individual services on a monthly basis.
Organizational Accountability and Relationship:
  • To be supervised by the Administrative Director, Clinical Director, and CEO.
  • Conduct individual supervision of BHT(Behavior Health Technician).
  • Engage in training support, as needed.
  • Participate in monthly peer supervision.
  • Provide clinical support to clients and assist the treatment team in securing services.
Competencies and Personal Characteristics:
  • Strong written skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory abilities.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience:
  • Be licensed in this Commonwealth as a behavior specialist.
  • Have a [current] certification as a BCBA [from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board] or other graduate-level certification in behavior analysis that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute.
  • Have a graduate degree in ABA from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or have an equivalent degree from a foreign college or university that has been evaluated by the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. The Department will accept a general equivalency report from the listed evaluator agencies to verify a foreign degree or its equivalency.
  • Have a [graduate degree in psychology, ABA, social work, education, counseling or related field that includes a clinical or mental health direct service practicum from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and a] minimum of 1 year of full-time experience in providing mental health direct services to children, youth or young adults and a graduate degree in psychology, social work, education, or counseling from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or an equivalent degree from a foreign college or university that has been evaluated by the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. The Department will accept a general equivalency report from the listed evaluator agencies to verify a foreign degree or its equivalency.
  • Completed a clinical or mental health direct service practicum and have a graduate degree in psychology, social work, education, counseling or a related field from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditations or have an equivalent degree from a foreign college or university that has been evaluated by the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. 
  • Valid child Abuse, criminal history, CPR/ First Aid, and FBI clearances.
  • BSC, BSL, FBA, License or BCBA Certification preferred.
