Clinical Service Nurse II Duke University Hospital Day Shift

Duke University Health System- Duke University Hospital seeks to hire an experienced Registered Nurse who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.

Department Profile:

The Pediatric Gastroenterology Department at the Duke Children's Hospital is active in delivering exemplary care for each patient to ensure an excellen patient experience.
This position will provide triage support for this patient population in collaboration with dynamic multidisciplinaryteams as needed. We are looking for someone with the ability to establish a strong rapport with patients and families by phone, coordinate services, andprovide education and nursing careto patients and families in the clinic setting.This position requires both indirect patient support and direct clinic time.
Work Hours & Shifts:
Full Time: Hours may very, but will typically fall within a standard Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm schedule.

Work performed (but not limited to):

• Triage calls resolving problems within scope; gather relevant information and coordinate follow-up with providers to develop plan and convey plan back to patients. Document communication in Maestro care and help manage MyChart messages as appropriate.
• Assisting with medication refills, referral management, completion of needed forms (DME, school, DMV), etc.
• Assist in care coordination, including coordinating diagnostic testing and outpatient appointments here at Duke or at outside facilities
• Patient and family education on plan of care for procedures, therapies, and equipment
• Delegate tasks and direct the activities of unlicensed care providers (schedulers, medical Assistants and Staff Assistants)

• Multitask in myriad ways document assessments, plan of care, interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status, access nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients, independently seek out resources and work collaboratively. Educate patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care. Relationship management with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited Bachelors Degree in Nursing (or higher) OR Associate's Degree in Nursing OR Nursing Diploma program.
• Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.

***All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.

Licensure and Certification Required:

• Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
• BLS Certification required

Desired qualifications for this position include the following:

• 2 years nursing experience with 1 year of pediatric experience
• Experience with telephone triage or managed care coordination
• Strong oral /written communication skills, software navigation abilities (EPIC experience preferred)
• Good organizational skills
• Flexible attitude with the ability to function both independently and as a team member, assisting patients/ families through home care coordination and in the clinic setting
• Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others
