Job Requirements:

The Junior Inspector is an entry-level Construction Engineering Inspection position. As a Junior Inspector, you will be responsible for performing basic mathematical calculations and following simple technical instructions. Your duties will be to assist higher-level inspectors in performing field surveying and construction layout verification, making, and checking engineering computations, inspecting construction work, and conducting field tests.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Daily documentation of contractor’s work efforts.
  • Project field book preparation and documentation.
  • Earthwork Construction logbook preparation and documentation.
  • Material sampling and testing.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Final Estimate package.
  • Measure distances to verify the accuracy of dimensions of construction activity/layout.
  • Observe work in progress to ensure that proper construction procedures are followed and materials used conform to specifications.
  • Obtain and/or prepare material samples for laboratory testing.
  • Examine the workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards.
  • Record quantities of materials received or used during specified periods.
  • Maintain a daily log of construction and inspection activities.

Requirements for position:

  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must obtain Work Zone Traffic Control (Advanced or Supervisor) within the first six months of employment.
  • Must possess SCDOT Earthwork & Base Course Technician qualification or obtain within the first 90 days months of employment.
  • Must possess SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician or obtain within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must possess SCDOT Concrete Technician Level 1&2 or obtain it within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must possess ACI Field Testing Technician Grade 1 or obtain it within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Must possess SCDHEC/Clemson CEPSCI (Sediment Control Inspector) qualification within the first six months of employment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Position requires a minimum of 40 hours a week with the possibility of overtime (Hourly).
  • Ability to learn and reach self-sufficiency with data entry and project record submittal in AASHTO-Ware Project and ProjectWise applications.

KSA’s:

  • Receive general instructions regarding assignments, and are expected to assist Inspectors, Senior Inspectors, and/or Project Manager with the completion of specific tasks and assists in all phases of the construction project.
  • Responsible for preparing backup documentation for progress and final estimates throughout the construction project duration.
