Job Overview:
A sustainability and environmental manages an organization's environmental sustainability practices. They develop, implement, and monitor company or organizational ecological strategies. They work with all areas of the business to ensure that it operates in an environmentally, socially, and economically responsible way. Sustainability managers help companies incorporate more eco-friendly business practices and ensure they remain compliant with all local and federal legislation. 
Responsibilities:
  • One of the primary roles of a sustainability manager is to create and communicate a clear and coherent sustainability strategy.
  • Develop a strong Environmental culture for the company by establishing proactive measures such as near-miss reporting, incentive programs, employee recognition and engagement.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive and effective Environmental and Sustainability program to improve the quality and execution of Environmental management processes based upon established regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • It involves conducting a sustainability assessment, identifying material issues, setting goals and targets, and developing action plans and indicators. 
  • Provide technical training, managerial and coaching support to Environmental and Sustainability personnel to enhance employee work standards, promote career development, instill professional work ethics and customer service essentials, motivate their aspirations to exceed personal and department goals, and improve the overall support to achieving company goals.
  • Conduct site audits to ensure compliance and regulatory inspection readiness; prepare written assessments of site audits, including recommendations for corrective action and remediation of recognized risk factors. UNACEM corporate policies roll-up.
  • Provide technical assistance and recommendations to management on new projects and current facility upgrades to assure compliance with Environmental and Sustainability permits and regulatory requirements and promote timely permitting efforts.
  • Actively participate in trade association membership programs to promote the company's brand among its peers and competitors and contribute to the success of the association's pursuits.
  • Promote a sound regulatory engagement culture between Drake and its regulatory agencies to promote a healthy regulatory relationship, establish agency trust and improve its reputation.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • EPA Method 9.
  • MSHA Part 46 or 48.
  • PMP - Project Management Professional - Preferred but not required.
  • Three years with MS degree and five years with a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in the mining or cement industry is preferred but optional.
  • Minimum of three years of managing environmental departments and supporting site programs dealing with regulatory agencies such as EPA and State Environmental background, especially Air quality compliance.
  • Prior experience working in the Portland Cement industry, experience and participation in PCA or related trade associations. 
  • Ability to create and present KPIs to management.
