Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is Hiring a Production Tech Lead - Video Near Orlando, FL

POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Technician Lead – Video is responsible for the maintenance and operation of video consoles, systems and equipment in the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater, DeVos Family room, and various other spaces throughout the building. The Lead Video Tech manages the video console and equipment for live events (i.e. theatrical shows, musical performances, meetings and special event rentals). The Production Technician Lead - is an integral member of the Production department and assists in maintaining the technical aspects of the facility as well as supervising the Event Crew in general setup and teardown of events, load-in and running of technical elements of shows and other tasks as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set up and run video projection for various live productions (i.e. theatrical shows, musical performances, meetings and special event rentals) in the Alexis & Jim Pugh theater, DeVos Family room, and various other spaces throughout the building. Work tech rehearsals to fine-tune needs for client satisfaction. Partner with 3rd party vendors for special equipment needs. Remain onsite during assigned shows/events. Quickly assess and troubleshoot any technical issues to ensure a smooth and successful event.
  • Provide recommendations on projector and lens needs for events/shows in collaboration with Audio/Video Supervisor, Show Systems Manager, and Production leadership.
  • Lead crew in event and show preparation, setup and tear down including loading and unloading, lights, audio, stages and other equipment as needed in a safe and efficient manner. Participate in the training and supervision of event crew.
  • Return all event and show items to their proper locations in clean and working condition. Responsible for the inventory, safety and security of AV, Sound, Lighting & Staging equipment. Report all facility or equipment problems/malfunctions to the proper party.
  • Perform routine maintenance on video equipment to ensure equipment is operating properly. Notify manager of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed. Research and explore new technologies to support operational and client needs.
  • Attend all training sessions and department meetings as required.
  • Follow and support all operational policies and procedures. Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure. Ability to deal effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy. Maintain a level of professionalism and cooperation with clients, 3rd party vendors and colleagues at all times.
  • Adhere to all company safety and security policies and procedures. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment. Follow all OSHA guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theater assets, AV equipment and stage sets.
  • Ability to follow verbal directions, printed diagrams and layouts as assigned by Production management with minimal supervision when setting up spaces. Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and verbal forms.
  • Detail oriented, good follow-through, and effective communication skills. Ability to quickly assess a situation and take action to promptly resolve any concerns or technical challenges.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in video and proficient with the following:
  • Video projection and high-end switchers and switching processes with multiple sources (including Panasonic/Epson/Barco/Christi/etc.)
  • Installation of Video equipment (Projector, switcher, cables, computers, converters, content, etc.)
  • Switcher consoles, network interfaces, and Media servers. Ability to understand and adjust projector ratios and refresh rate. Knowledgeable of various cable types and uses. Ability to select the right cable for the proper use and equipment. Must know how to convert/connect one cable to another and what equipment to use.
  • Editing abilities within Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Q-lab software; I-Mag/multi-camera setups
  • Troubleshooting signal and power issues
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Converging multiple projectors
  • Setting up and leading large projection layouts from concept to operation
  • Operational understanding of Blackmagic and Panasonic video switches
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be comfortable working safely on ladders, in single man lifts and scissor lifts at heights greater than 10 ft.
