Legislative Aide
Part Time Position, 2 to 3 days per week (12 hours to 18 hours per week)
As a County Legislative Aide, the incumbent will assist an elected County Commissioner carry out their duties more efficiently by assisting in research, administration and communications. Responsibilities require strong communication, research and management skills and the ability to multitask. Incumbent will be assigned to focus on specific policy areas, such as, education, peace and order, the environment or tax legislation. Legislators are generally assigned to committees, and the policy focus of the Legislative Aide will usually depend on which committee the Commissioner is appointed to Chair.
One of the key duties of a Legislative Aide is research. As legislators are concerned with passing laws, it’s critical that Legislative Aides thoroughly research proposed legislation by attending committee hearings, community forums, bi-weekly commission meetings etc., and getting copies of different testimonies and records. If assigned legislator is the one proposing legislation, incumbent may have to research studies that will strengthen the bill.
The Legislative Aide will also assist in communications, connecting the legislator he or she serves and the people and agencies who want to get in touch with the legislator. Furthermore, the Legislative Aide will be responsible for arranging meetings and events for the legislator, maybe even attending on his or her behalf.
This is a part time highly skilled administrative position that provides a wide range of administrative, technical, constituency outreach, and event planning support. This position serves at the pleasure of the District Commissioner and requires strong written & verbal communication skills and the ability to multitask.
May require possession and maintenance of a State of Georgia Notary Public certification.
Requirements:
Employment is contingent on passing a mandatory Physical/drug screen, MVR and background investigation
Salary: $26.00 hourly, NO BENEFITS
