Douglas County Government is Hiring a Foreman II Near Douglas, GA

This is supervisory and technical work in overseeing all Douglas County Parks and Recreation Park Maintenance Special Projects and daily operations. Responsibilities include assisting in planning projects, supervising the assigned crews, determining work schedules, staking projects, and performing administrative duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in planning projects; interpreting construction plans and other elements of projects; planning scope of project and identifying necessary work methods, materials, equipment, and personnel needed
  • Supervising employees assigned to crew. Duties include assigning, monitoring, and inspecting work in progress and upon completion, ensuring that projects are finished based on project plans or work order
  • May transport crew to project work site and checking equipment at job site to ensure that it is operative
  • Overseeing preventative maintenance and repair of equipment, trucks, and tools to ensure safety and operative condition.
  • Operating heavy equipment such as ABI or other field machines, woodchipper, skid steers, steel roller, front-end loader, zero turn mowers, backhoe, and other heavy equipment.
  • Train employees in the proper operation of assigned equipment, trucks, and tools
  • Coordinating the field turf management schedule with selected outside vendors
  • Coordinating with utility companies to locate and mark utilities in work site.
  • Explaining new or updated department policies and procedures to crew workers
  • Establishing work procedures for crew operations
  • Completing and maintaining administrative records such as work orders, log sheets, mileage records, employee time sheets, and leave cards
  • Serving as liaison to the general public in responding to and resolving public complaints or problems regarding paving operations
  • Operating pick-up truck in performing supervisory job duties
  • Performing work of subordinate employees as needed
  • Performing emergency call-back duty as required
  • Performing lower classification job duties as needed

  • Performing other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED, supplemented by college-level or vocational course work in a related field
  • Ten years professional related work experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class C) and a satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)
  • Possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License (Class A)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn county and department operations, ordinances, policies, procedures, terminology, and materials as they relate to assignment
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn applicable state, federal, state, and local codes and ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations as they relate to assignment
  • Knowledge of Public Parks, Trails, Passive and Active Recreation Areas, and Facilities preventive maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and grammar
  • Knowledge of basic business mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Knowledge of Douglas County Park System
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe operation of equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles as required by assignment
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of all department equipment, tools, machinery, and vehicles as required by assignment
  • Knowledge of specialized software, machinery, materials, terminology, and/or forms essential to the assignment
  • Knowledge of materials requirements used in department functionality and projects
  • Skill in creating, maintaining, and organizing accurate, detailed, and complete records in accordance with standard record-keepingprocedures
  • Skill in effective inter-personal and public relations and customer service; excellent oral and written communication skills to satisfactorily resolve conflicts and issues, and to explain established policies and procedures to employees and the general public
  • Skill in estimating and determining material and project costs
  • Skill in handling and operating all assigned equipment, tools, and/or vehicles in a safe and proficient manner
  • Skill in instructing, leading, and supervising employees and/or work crews
  • Skill in performing tasks which require attention to detail, and completing assigned jobs efficiently and correctly
  • Skill in planning, prioritizing, and organizing work; ability to handle multiple work assignments efficiently, accurately, and professionally; skill in planning, prioritizing, organizing, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others
  • Skill in the use of personal computers, MS Office Suite, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing
  • Ability to apply common sense to understand, follow, and complete verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate and interact clearly and effectively with all those contacted in the course of work in a professional and courteous manner, both orally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective, professional, and cordial working relationships

  • Ability to provide instruction and direction; effective leadership skills; ability to train, supervise, and motivate staff
  • Ability to read and comprehend a variety of documents, memos, instructions, correspondence, policies, blueprints, et cetera
  • Ability to compile information to create clear and concise reports, records, correspondence, and other written material
  • Ability to resolve routine and non-routine problems and complaints by applying or adapting established policies and procedures
  • Ability and willingness to meet physical requirements and perform heavy manual labor (including lifting and carrying heavy objects) indoors or outdoors, while working in and adjacent to the roadway for extended periods of time
  • Ability and willingness to work with and assist other laborers to complete assigned project
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Ability to work under stress and during emergency situations

Salary: $50,515.40 annually, plus full benefits package
