Supervise assigned personnel of one of the Department’s Units, Shifts, Sections, Teams, Squads and/or Details. Maintain good personnel relations, safety practices, and discipline. Resolve day-to-day operational problems and questions arising from personnel and the public, and enforces law enforcement administrative policies and procedures.

As a member of the Command Staff, tasks include but are not limited to:
Operations:
Responsible for supervision of the assigned Unit, Section, Team, Squad, Shift or Supervise and direct staff and the daily activities of the Division or Station. Set performance standards and evaluate subordinates, approve reports, leave and overtime. Participate in selection process and initiate corrective action recommendations following the chain-of-command procedures.Present well-thought out written action plan solutions to Captain for operational issues and community concerns that Expected to present new and innovative ideas to improve department operations and efficiency.Responsible for scheduling of staff assigned, revise as necessary to ensure adequate staffing levels to achieve department objectives and ensure effective communication from one shift toPerform uniform and vehicle inspections on assigned personnel to ensure that equipment is maintained and operating properly.Monitor radio to ensure operational effectiveness, location of officers on duty, and make determination as to whether any calls require a supervisor on Participate in felony investigations; perform a variety of case management oriented Work with prosecutors regarding disclosure of information and/or arraignments, maintaining case files, and coordinating with other law enforcement agencies, interview complainants, witnesses and Assist in handling citizen complaints and internal investigations and officer-involved Receive and investigate all complaints from the public regarding personnel in the Division.Recommend and schedule training for Responsible for training personnel regarding techniques, processes, and procedures in the performance of their duties.Perform the duties of a Sergeant, Deputy or Investigator as necessary while still performing Supervisory functions and maintain supervisory authority and responsibility.Administration:
Ensure that a majority of work is spent on supervision (planning, organizing, staffing, coordinating, reporting, and budgeting as assigned) and administrative duties.Supervise Sergeants within the assigned division and other personnel when no Captain is Initiate improvement plans and disciplinary action for procedural infractions.Ensure that follow up investigations assigned are completed in a timely manner and that all department and County policies and procedures are Submit draft recommendations for new and/or revised policies and procedures to the Captain as assigned and implement policies, procedures, and general orders in response to operating conditions and demands for services by the public and governmental Participate on oral boards for hiring, promotion and laterals and as a member for a variety of other boards.Perform as subject matter expert in grant proposals and may be assigned to oversee grants when awarded and/or when Represent the Captain in their absence and/or when Serve as a community liaison and maintain continual awareness of trends or patterns of activity that relate to law enforcement Responsible for administrative notifications on significant Responsible for limiting County liability in all situations at all times.ADDITIONAL DUTIES.

Qualifications
Education. High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
Experience. Eight years total of certified law enforcement experience. Must have held the rank of Sergeant for four years.
Education/Experience substitution. None
Licenses/Certifications. Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with County policy. Must have a current New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification. Must have successfully passed a First Line Supervisor course. FTO-General instructor preferred.
Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Must be able to pass a background investigation, polygraph exam, firearms certification, medical exam, psychological test, and drug screening.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
Demonstrates practical knowledge of technical methods to perform assignments such as carrying out limited projects that involve use of specialized and complicated techniques and practical knowledge of standard procedures in a technical field that require extended training or experience to perform, such work as adapting equipment when this requires consideration of functioning characteristics of equipment; interpreting results of tests based on previous experience and observations rather than directly reading instruments or other measurers; or extracting information from various sources when this requires considering the applicability of information and the characteristics and quality of the sources.
