Job Location : Main Campus - SAN RAFAEL, CA
Position Type : Staff - Full Time
Position Summary
The Technical Architect (TA) is a project management and technical leadership role responsible with IT department management to improve university processes, design the structure of enterprise level IT systems, oversee project implementation, and measure the performance of existing and new systems. The Technical Architect should have extensive knowledge of enterprise networking and computer systems, advanced problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage projects. The position reports directly to the Director of Infrastructure and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities
  • Works with IT management and Operations to determine existing and future system needs.
  • Envisions, presents and/or creates solutions utilizing on-premise and cloud-based resources for cybersecurity, network, database and system operations.
  • Establish and manage approved projects complete with timelines and milestones.
  • Must possess strong networking skills. Maintains administrative oversight on firewall policy changes, network penetration tests and configurations.
  • Performs training, troubleshooting, administration to optimize network, compute and cloud system performance (Microsoft, Linux cluster, containerized and virtual environments).
  • Maintain documentation and inventory of systems, configurations and equipment.
  • Able to collaborate with network services and Information Systems to maintain, automate and improve enterprise information workflows.
  • Acts as an escalation person for complex troubleshooting
  • Work with vendors as necessary to address, maintain and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in technology, or related fields
  • Excellent Communication skills, able to simplify complex topics.
  • Experience with Cisco, Arista and/or Fortinet CLI commands.
  • 3 - 5 years experience troubleshooting hardware, software and networking systems.
  • Strong, In-depth knowledge of H/A enterprise systems, networking protocols and software integration
  • Proficient with scripting languages, distributed systems and cloud services such as AWS.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with container virtualization & DevOps automation tools
  • Experience with one or more (Okta, Ansible, Docker, Grafana, and Ceph)
  • Demonstrated desire to continue learning more about new technology
  • Experience working in an institution of higher education is beneficial, but not essential
