Dominican Sisters of Peace is Hiring a Kitchen Staff Near Columbus, OH

You must be able to pass an extensive background check and drug screen to qaulify for this position

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, the primary purpose of the Kitchen Staff position is to provide tasty, attractive and nutritious meals to the residents, staff, catering events and guests by using recipes and production records. Must be available 7 days a week and some holidays. Hours of operation are 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. Typical work week is 40 hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Major Activity: Food production

  • Assists in the preparation of breakfast, lunch and/or dinner using standard recipes, production sheets and production counts with the ability to adjust recipes to an appropriate quantity.
  • Substitutes menu items for residents in dining room serving line only after being pre-approved by the kitchen manager.
  • Assists Kitchen manager in organizing menus and catering events.

Major Activity: Health and Safety

  • Takes temperatures of all hot and cold foods to be served.
  • Oversees and assists with proper food handling, labeling and dating.
  • Ensures cost containment through correct production, portioning, and sanitary food handling.
  • Uses equipment safely, reporting equipment with problems promptly.
  • Operates, maintains, cleans and sanitizes all kitchen equipment as necessary.
  • Follows Dominican Sisters of Peace established fire safety policies and participates in procedures. Serve Safe certified preferred.

Major Activity:

When needed assists with

  • Washing of all pots, pans and cooking utensils during the shift and at the end of each shift.
  • Washing dishes
  • Cleans and sweeps floor before and after shifts
  • Ensures that oven is clean before and at the end of each shift
  • Performs all production and clean up duties as assigned by Kitchen manager.
  • Strives continually to meet and anticipate residents needs.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of resident information.
  • Attends in-service meetings; shows measurable training effectiveness
  • Performs other duties as directed.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must pass background and drug screening.

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Serve Safe Certified preferred.

Experience: Two years as a cook or equivalent; Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Requirements: Proficient in reading, writing and speaking in English. Must function independently, take initiative, have flexibility and personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with others. Exhibits consistent positive behavior towards residents, visitors, vendors and co-workers. Knows or will learn and use American and Metric measurements.

KNOWLEDGE: Must have basic food handling knowledge, be able to prepare food items from scratch, and have strong knife skills.

SKILLS: Must possess positive interpersonal skills to effectively communicate. Must possess problem solving skills. Must have knowledge of food preparation and strong knife skills.
