JOB DESCRIPTION:
The welder's duties include reviewing blueprints, cutting the metal into the appropriate shape, smoothing molten metal to remove creases using and managing machines that manufacture and repair metal structures, tools, and equipment.
 
JOB SUMMARY:
It is important to note that the responsibilities of a welder can vary by assignment, but they include and are not limited to:
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Examine workpieces for defects and measure workpieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of the material.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Melt and apply solder to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products, using soldering equipment.
  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating things.
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Select production equipment according to product specifications.
  • Solder parts or workpieces.
  • Disassemble equipment for maintenance or repair.
  • Repair parts or assemblies.
  • Clean production equipment.
  • Performs other duties as requested. 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge in welding techniques such as MIG and TIG.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Ability to adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle quickly and repeatedly to exact positions.
  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing that there is a problem.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives supervision from the plant manager. The position has formal assigned supervisory responsibility and authority. Must complete jobs without constant supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The principal duties of this position are performed in an indoor environment, with high equipment noise and high temperatures.
 
ALCOHOL AND DRUG TESTING POLICY:
This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing. DLP Staffing has a Drug Free Workplace Policy which includes Post-Accident Testing, Random Testing, and/or Reasonable Suspicion Testing.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Certified Welder.
  • Other: Valid Drivers’ License Class C.
