The GIS Specialist role includes supporting various transportation planning and engineering projects by building, maintaining, modifying, or using geographic information systems (GIS) databases. As a GIS Specialist, you will provide user support to satisfy internal and external client needs. The GIS Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring that client deliverables are visually appealing and are representative of DKS’s brand standards.
What you will be doing:
  • Work on transportation planning, urban planning, electric vehicle infrastructure planning, and other technical projects
  • Assist in the development of standard deliverable formats for various contracts based on client and internal specifications and industry best practices.
  • Analyze GIS data to identify spatial relationships or display results of analyses using maps, graphs, or tabular data.
  • Maintain or modify existing GIS databases
  • Enter data into GIS databases using techniques such as coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning or automatic conversion to vectors, or conversion of other sources of digital data
  • Review existing or incoming data for accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation
  • Create maps and exhibits
  • Perform data collection in the field
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and assignments
  • Manage online storage of data, including ArcGIS Online datasets, projects, and applications
  • Partner with our Creative Services team to help standardize map styles
  • Ensure that maps, graphs, or tabular data created with GIS are visually compelling and adhere to DKS brand standards
  • Interact extensively with internal staff including project managers, transportation planners, and engineers

What we are looking for:
  • BA/BS in Geography, GIS, Geomatics, or related field and a minimum of five years of relevant working experience
  • At least 6 years' experience utilizing GIS software in a professional work environment
  • Advanced GIS software knowledge and experience, including Esri GIS core products (e.g., ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, Business Analyst, ArcGIS Dashboards).
  • Experience developing workflows using Python and Esri ModelBuilder
  • Extensive experience using ArcGIS and Google Earth
  • Experience working in AutoCAD jointly with GIS products
  • Prior experience in critical review and analysis using external data sources
  • Database management experience preferred
  • Experience with Javascript, Agile, Qgis, GIS, and SQL software and systems preferred
  • Prior experience as a consultant preferred

Salary Range: $79,400 - $110,800 per year
