District of Columbia International School is Hiring a Core Studies Coordinator Near Washington, DC

Position Overview: The Coordinator will supervise and coach the Arts Team (Visual Arts, Theater, and Music). This person will support the arts team in creating and revising a vision for the arts programming at DCI, both inside and outside the classroom. This position will collaborate closely with Educational Leaders, the Student Support Team, and Ed Office Administrators. The Coordinator is also responsible for leading the build-out of the new Core Studies course in High School and general social-emotional learning. This position will collaborate closely with Educational Leaders, the Student Support Team, Ed Office Administrators, and the Director of Data and Assessments. The Core Studies Coordinator reports on the ESY calendar.

Salary Range: $66,924 - $111,266 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience) 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience teaching ideally at the Middle or High School level
  • Experience working with or supporting Arts programming on the secondary level. 
  • Experience coaching teachers.
  • Previous experience in developing Social-Emotional Learning curricula. 
  • Strong collaboration skills with others.
  • Previous experience coaching teachers and supporting their growth and development
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents, students, teachers, support staff, and associates; excellent oral and written communication skills; expertise with internet and computer programs
  • Experience working in an urban school with diverse families.
  • Strong interest in, or experience with, language immersion, and IB Programme models.
  • Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Meet with the Arts teachers regularly to provide coaching support. 
  • Implement a continuous coaching cycle for each Arts team member based on their individual needs. 
  • Manage the ordering, allocating, and tracking necessary supplies for the Arts team. 
  • Observe and provide feedback to teachers about the lessons developed for the Core Studies.
  • Research evidence-based practices for social-emotional learning to be incorporated into the Core Studies.
  • Create ongoing professional development sessions for teachers to implement social-emotional learning practices.
  • Develop weekly lessons to be implemented during the Core Studies.
  • Support the development of new elective and DP courses in the Arts to diversify student options. 
  • Monitor and moderate MYP, CP, and DP project assessment and grading.
  • Lead the process of developing, reviewing, and revising the school’s MYP, CP, and DP Projects in collaboration with the IB team.
  • Develop a sequence for implementing the Community Project, Personal Project, and Service Learning requirements during the Core Studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
