Job SummaryMental Health Resource Center is seeking a Senior Director of Inpatient Services for the psychiatric inpatient crisis stabilization units at our Jacksonville facilities. The crisis stabilization unit provides emergency psychiatric services. Most patients are admitted involuntarily to the facility via the Baker Act, the mental health act of Florida. The normal length of stay on the unit for patients is typically 3-5 days. Due to the types of services provided, crisis stabilization units are a fast paced working environment and present employees with challenging and rewarding opportunities. Employees work together and support one another in a friendly, team oriented atmosphere. The Senior Director of Inpatient Services is responsible for managing the Inpatient and Emergency Services programs at both MHRC inpatient facilities. This position also directs social services, recreational therapy, and educational services provided to the adult, child and adolescent programs. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining quality patient care and supervising all members of the treatment team. The Senior Director is accountable for unit compliance with all applicable standards and regulations and for the 24-hour supervision and performance of all staff assigned to the three inpatient units and Emergency Services. Some of the responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Develops and maintains effective programming and ensures quality of patient care on the inpatient psychiatric units and Emergency Services in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Coordinates ancillary services in accordance with the needs of the patients, as identified by the organization and the Vice President of Inpatient and Nursing Services.
Formulates and recommends to the Vice President of Inpatient and Nursing Services, changes in policies, procedures and programs to improve the operations of the Inpatient and Emergency Services programs.
Maintains current knowledge about health care and nursing administration issues.
Supervises Class II pharmacy system in accordance with federal, state and local regulations under the direction of the pharmacist.
Ensures that all nursing staff follow safe and ethical practices, as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Establishes, maintains and monitors medication administration and education for all patients; reviews and reports medication variations and adverse reactions, and institutes appropriate corrective action.
In cooperation with the Infection Control Practitioner, oversees and ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to infection control on the unit, including patients and personnel.
Formulates and assists with Quality Improvement monitoring and studies.
In collaboration with the Vice President- Inpatient and Nursing Services, provides and implements a plan for meeting the Joint Commission standards for the Inpatient and Emergency Services areas to ensure accreditation.
Implements and maintains effective mechanisms for meeting the nutritional and/or special needs of the patients, in coordination with the LIPs and/or other responsible personnel or departments.
Performs supervisory functions (i.e., coordinates with RBHS Vice President of Inpatient & Nursing Services).
Demonstrates a leadership role through competent clinical practice, delegation, use of time, equipment and personnel, and displays current knowledge of and maintains unit compliance with policies and procedures
Responsible for 24 hour personnel coverage to maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu; prepares monthly schedules and monitors adherence.
Organizes, leads and participates in professional nursing activities, staff meetings, and committees; ensures staff attendance to same, as appropriate.
Takes a leadership role in the development and implementation of the EHR system. Recommends ideas, processes and/or procedures for enhancements and modifications to improve and ensure the EHR goals of the clinical program are attained. Understands the requirements for clinical, quality, regulatory and operational perspectives and ensures they are incorporated within the EHR.
Responsible for on-call services for all MHRC in-patient programs after hours, as scheduled.
STAFF MONITORING
Supervises staff through monthly program staff meetings, as well as individual supervision of each staff member.
Provides regularly documented supervision of the Nurse Managers, Director of Emergency Services and Clinical Team Leaders.
Facilitates recruitment, hiring, orientation, retention, evaluations, and employee actions in coordination with Vice President.
Facilitates peer reviews.
Identifies needs for staff training, makes recommendations for in-service training, provides documentation for all trainings for personnel files, and makes recommendations for staff to attend educational sessions.
Ensures completion of orientation competency forms.
Completes timekeeping duties including leave requests within scheduled time periods.
Position Requirements
In order to be considered candidates must have an Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing. Master’s degree in Nursing or health related field preferred.
Five years of nursing and supervisory experience in psychiatric treatment setting required.
Valid Florida State license as a Registered Nurse required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs, Outlook, and the Internet required.
Proficiency in the MHRC electronic health records system (EHR) demonstrated within three months of employment.
Strong communication skills are essential and this individual must be able to interact appropriately with internal and external customers, including patients, families, caregivers, community service providers, supervisory staff and other department professionals.
