The Senior Software Engineer will be the technical owner for the Marketing Engineering team, responsible for designing and building modern domain-driven, observable microservices to host on public Cloud platforms (AWS), leveraging technologies such as Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes and GraphQL. A strong background with Python is needed for this role.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Software Engineer with a background in API development, microservices, cloud native design patterns, and public facing systems. You will act as the team’s technical owner in support of marketing and growth initiatives including communications, content, ad-tech, segmentation, analytics, SEO and a variety of integrations, cross-functional projects, experiments and campaigns. This position reports to the Marketing Engineering Manager.

What You’ll Accomplish

• Design, build, optimize, and maintain observable software. Along with writing and deploying code, the Senior Full Stack will be responsible for technical design and feasibility, championing modern patterns and principles, delivering value to the business quickly without sacrificing quality.
• Develop new solutions and optimize integrations to support the marketing team’s strategic goals.
• Develop, optimize, and maintain the technical tools the marketing team relies on to do their work with a focus on sustainability, testing, and analytics, while improving processes and capabilities.
• Help lead the team's agile software development process. Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Coordinators to communicate technical needs and restrictions to the team's stakeholders and help plan future work.
• Partner with other engineering teams, product, UX, and infrastructure to explore and prove the plausibility of concepts and potential solutions.
• Create architecture, code, delivery, and operational strategies, and constructively critique strategies suggested by others from anywhere in the organization. Contribute to the conversation on Discogs' engineering-wide practices, processes, and tools.
• Act as a resource and mentor for less experienced team members to help them fully understand the team's work and plans, pair- or mob-programming with them when necessary.

What You'll Contribute

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering from four-year college or university, or equivalent technical work experience
• 8 years of software engineering experience 
• Thorough understanding of HTTP APIs
• Fluency in at least one server-side language, Python specifically
• 5 years experience building and maintaining web applications in the cloud, crafting scalable, highly available and eventually consistent distributed systems
• 3 years experience in containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• 3 years experience in event/message streaming technologies (Kafka)
• Experience leading technical/software initiatives 
• Experience working with an existing code base
• Hands-on experience with Marketing and Advertising technologies (Google Analytics, Tag Manager, HubSpot)
• Technical knowledge of email technologies
• Wordpress development experience
• 2 years of working in Agile/Scrum/Kanban teams
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL data structures 
• Experience deploying and scaling cloud architecture
