The Law Office of Victor D. Walker, P.C. is currently seeking a paralegal to support attorneys in our Real Estate and Tax Department. A four year college degree and/or ABA-approved paralegal certification required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years litigation experience with knowledge and experience regarding Texas state Court and working knowledge and understanding of the real estate, property tax and mortgage foreclosure practice areas.
· Responsibilities
· Duties include maintaining attorney calendars, discovery, scheduling, e-filing, drafting of pleadings, correspondence to clients, attorneys and court, etc.
· Review of overall lawsuit from petition to judgment; determine if property is ready for tax sale and work with necessary parties to schedule property for tax sale, accurately and timely.
· Perform complex factual research and investigation utilizing computer databases such as LEXIS, Westlaw and/or other online computer-assisted programs and to organize and store accessed information in an orderly and concise manner.
· Utilizes data entry and computer skills to produce pleadings and correspondence related to post judgment activities; including motions, orders, exhibits, notices and appeals.
· Compile information from various sources, analyze and clearly report detailed findings using charts, statistics and other tools.
· Document management, including but not limited to review of documents, bates labeling, and organization of documents in a concise and comprehensive manner.
· Develop systems to track client information and settlement statements and assist with document acquisition, organization, review and analysis.
· Maintain knowledge of all attorneys’ calendars, i.e., being aware of all upcoming deadlines and having all necessary tasks completed in a timely manner which are associated with each deadline.
· Obtain good standing and existence certificates, tax certificates and similar materials from Secretary of State, Comptroller and other appropriate government offices.
· Knowledge of proper preparation of deposition, motion and hearing notebooks and all items to be included in same.
· Trial preparation, including but not limited to trial notebooks, coordinating witnesses, preparation of affidavits, real estate & probate filings retrievals and service of same.
The ideal candidate must be a proficient multi-tasker who thrives in a challenging and fast-paced environment. Excellent writing and proofreading skills required. Must be motivated to learn and contribute ideas and/or solutions. Qualified candidates will project a professional demeanor and attitude at all times and will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with clients, witnesses, experts and peers. Knowledge of MyCase ,Clio and notary a plus.
Qualifications
Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Successful candidates must have superior organizational skills, display great attention to detail, possess professional client interaction skills, and be able to prioritize multiple assignments while meeting last minute deadlines.
Pay and Benefits
$56,500.00 - $57,500.00 per year; Benefits: Dental insurance, Health insurance, Life insurance, Vision insurance and 401K Plan; Plus Supplemental Pay: Bonus pay
