CDS is looking for a Payroll Tax Specialist in San Antonio, Tx. (78201)

CDS in Texas, an affiliate of Disability Services of the Southwest, is seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist in San Antonio!

Position Summary: Manages the preparation and processing of payroll taxes in accordance with IRS section 3504 of the IRS Code and state unemployment tax rules.

Tasks:

  • Train payroll specialists on tax related processes as directed;
  • Prepare and monitor processes for payroll and taxes.
  • Perform highly technical accounting work in preparation for and maintenance of an automated payroll system and other financial and statistical records and reports.
  • Monitors payroll processes to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations and internal policies.
  • Implement technical accounting principles and procedures.
  • Ensure all payroll tax deposits are balanced and deposited timely.
  • Liaise with federal and state tax offices as necessary.
  • Prepare the following federal and state tax filings. This list is subject to change in the event federal and state filing requirements are amended.

  • Maintain all consolidated payroll and tax related data to assist in quarterly reconciliation of cross company data.
  • Reconciliation of payroll and tax withholding records; the deposit of Federal income tax withholdings; provide support necessary for preparation of Federal W-2 forms and data; reconcile and submit Social Security and Medicare documents.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in federal and state payroll regulations, training staff as needed.
  • Must complete a minimum of (8) hours per year of continuing education classes related to payroll and/or tax processing unless approved by a member of senior management.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes to all software used by Payroll Department and train staff as necessary.
  • Observe confidentiality policies at all times.
  • Comply with federal, state, & company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills/Attributes:
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to be a self-starter who is able to handle a large volume of complex daily payroll activities in a fast-paced environment under minimal supervision.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to be a team leader and assist in supervision and training of payroll staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills, including active listening skills such as giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Willingness to work with health care professionals, clients, families, and the general public.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competence with computer applications such as MS Word and Excel and have the ability to readily learn agency specific software.
  • Written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate effectively as appropriate to the needs of the audience.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend English; must be able to communicate efficiently in English.
Experience and Education:
  • Must be at least 18 year of age.
  • Must have (3 - 4) years of experience in payroll accounting.
  • College Degree in a Business-related field is preferred.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred but not required
  • Firm understanding of data preparation, staging, and processing for the following file types:
  • Excel
  • CSV
  • TXT
  • Progressive payroll experience with the knowledge of federal and state laws, aggregate tax filing requirements and W-2 Reporting.
  • Knowledge of: principles, practices, methods and procedures of modern payroll accounting; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; laws, regulations and ordinances regarding payroll accounting; statistics and accepted checking, balancing and verification procedures.
  • Must be able to type 35 wpm with 80% accuracy, 90% accuracy in Excel, and 6,000 to 8,000 keystrokes proficient in 10-key adding machine.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work up to a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with words, hand(s) or arm(s); for example, using the keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.
  • Ability to move about.
