Objective

The St. Vincent de Paul Youth Ministry internship program empowers college-aged practicing Catholics to serve the Catholic Church in fun and dynamic ways, while providing them the opportunity to gain practical ministry experience in the parish setting. Additionally, this program is intended to help these same ministers to discern future areas of study and service within the Church in which they would like to participate.

Description

• Background: Spring of 2024 is a busy and distinct time in the Faith Formation year at St. Vincent de Paul. While usual classroom and youth group ministries continue to meet, there is an increased focus on Sacramental preparation classes Confirmation for teens. Additionally contact ministry, retreat and social experiences, and retention and formation of ministry teams all become more urgent as we approach Spring Sacramental liturgies and exciting summer events.

• Focus: The 2024 Youth Ministry Intern will focus on leadership development (Ember Team, Core Team Training) and Middle School ministry (including special event development), assistance in administration of Sacramental Preparation for Youth Confirmation, and summer event planning and execution. All tasks will be carried out under the supervision of Director of Youth Ministry (with oversight of the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis).

Plan of Action

• Proposed Tasks: The intern will be tasked with the following tasks before the launch of the RE year.
  • Administrative Responsibilities: Assist in organizing and recording of program records including sacramental records for Confirmation, including entry of sacramental data manipulation in Ministry Platform.
  • Middle School Youth Ministry (EDGE) Event: Under the direction of, and alongside the Youth Minister, co-create a comprehensive plan for ministry to 6th-8th grade students in the form of a retreat/rally event. Identify location, costs, presenters, themes and other important elements. Plan, market, and facilitate this event alongside parents, Ember Team, and other volunteers. Execute this event.
  • IMPACT Youth Ministry: Under the direction of, and alongside the Youth Minister, plan and execute four (4) summer social and spiritual gatherings. Additionally, assist with administration of summer activities including Mission and scheduled retreats. Plan and lead a prayer service on Mission, date TBD.
  • Ember Team Training: Write, plan, and co-facilitate a retreat/training experience for Ember Team teen leaders. This experience should focus on contact ministry, outreach, developing a prayer life, and service. Additional duties include recruiting new teen leaders and marketing training and team building events.
  • Additional Duties: Assist in theme development, marketing, lesson-planning, and launch (kickoff) for the 2024-2025 RE year.

• Deliverables and Timeline: The proposed internship timeline for 2024 is indefinite, with the sum of the project not to exceed 16 weeks unless approved by the Pastor. All tasks are to be completed in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Director of Youth Ministry.

• Phase 1:

  • Recruit new Ember Team members from among Confirmed SVdP teens.

Oversight, Work Schedule, & Compensation

• Oversight: The intern will be under the direct supervision of the Director of Youth Ministry, with oversight of the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis.
• Work Schedule: The intern will work in the Youth Ministry office on the SVdP Campus for 25 hours a week. Schedule may vary depending on specific tasks for a given work week. All assigned tasks are to be done on church property, except when on Mission or pre-approved by the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis.
• Compensation: Upon approval, the Youth Ministry Intern will receive a monthly stipend for the internship described above. The breakdown for payment will be $13.00/hour for 25 hours/week, totaling $1,300/month.
