Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Mammography Technologist to join our team. As a Mammography Technologist, you will be responsible for performing mammography exams and providing high-quality patient care. Your expertise will contribute to the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, helping to save lives.

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts

Description

Mammography Technologists operate a mammography unit to produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under direction of a physician. They explain the procedure to patients, position and immobilize the patient’s breast in unit, and observe the scanning process. This involves monitoring the video display of the area being scanned and adjusting the density or contrast to improve picture quality. Mammography technologists then review and evaluate the film or image recording plate to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Throughout this whole process, mammography technologists use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

· Provides expertise in decision making, problem solving, conflict resolution, and section operations.

· Sets up the imaging room to coincide with the examination being performed to include the use of proper isolation precautions when needed.

· Verifies two patient identifiers.

· Explains procedure to patient and provides post procedure instructions.

· Sets up trays, performs time outs and assists physicians in performing procedures.

· Safely transfers patient to and from carts, beds and wheelchairs.

· Positions the patient ensuring patient comfort and modesty.

· Selects proper imaging devices, provides proper shielding for patients and assisting personnel, and sets the machine to obtain optimal images.

· Accurately critiques images and adjusts factors if an image needs to be repeated.

· Properly tracks procedures according to imaging standards.

· Performs patient assessment and screening within the scope of practice.

· Meets the daily goals of the work group by prioritizing workflow.

· Uses a variety of imaging equipment and understands the capabilities and limitations of each piece of equipment.

· Uses the image archiving system and maintains an expertise in data and image transfer.

· Notifies the appropriate personnel when equipment malfunctions or requires maintenance.

· Cleans, disinfects, and inspects equipment.

· Checks the status of the imaging equipment to ensure device is in proper operating condition.

· May perform testing to ensure proper calibration and optimal performance of equipment.

· Facilitate the patient experience by greeting patients, explaining pre- and post-procedure instructions, completing exam forms and verifying patient’s identity.

· Utilize AIDET Principles in all patient and provider encounters.

· Update patient history, prepare images for reading by Radiologist and finalizing exam

· Conduct routine start up and closing operations including turning on equipment, performing quality control and complete work queues.

· Conduct environmental and safety procedures

· Evaluate and maintain supply levels and practice safe patient maneuvers.

· Document the patient’s exam through data entry, report retrieval, scanning and recording the exam details in the electronic medical record system

· Maintain professional and technical knowledge and licensure through educational workshops, professional publications and societies.

· Maintains licensure, certifications and ongoing CEUs for professional development on a timely basis.

Qualifications

Education: BLS Certification (Required), Active ARRT (M)- Required. High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience: 1 years experience preferred. Recent Mammography graduates will be considered.

Knowledge: Consistently model AIDET principles, service excellence and service recovery. Consistently demonstrate commitment to safe practices while abiding by all OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.

Skills: Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Email and ability to comprehend and utilize Electronic Medical Record System and PACS Systems. Use of medical equipment, testing and measuring devices and office equipment. Ability to interact with patients in a fast-paced environment; Strong verbal and organizational skills; excellent customer service. Willingness to learn and perform screening and diagnostic exams.

Licensure/Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Mammography in good standing.

Physical requirements: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling. Must be able to stand, stoop, lift and walk without restrictions. Requires the physical ability to stand and walk throughout the day and help lift and move patients.

Conditions of employment: CPR Certification, compliance with OSHA and HIPAA guidelines, wear all required Personal Protective Equipment and Radiation Dosimeter Badge. Adherence to the Mission, Vision, and Values of DRI and professional representation of DRI.
