SCHEDULE

Temporary Full-Time Position
Must be available Sunday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm as needed for operations.
Must be flexible with schedule changes to meet operational needs.

HIRING RANGE

$20.35 to $25.36 hourly

Actual pay commensurate with experience

JOB SUMMARY

1. Performs general repair, maintenance, and renovation duties at various company locations.

2. Keeps facilities in good working condition.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs minor electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and other trades’ type of work.

1.1 Performs specified maintenance, repair, and/or renovation in accordance with approved work requests, codes and other specifications.

1.2 Researches costs of materials, labor, and use of equipment required to fulfill work requests and confers with supervisor/requester to ensure costs are within budget.

1.3 Obtains proper materials and equipment to perform work requests.

1.4 Orders and manages supplies and materials for routine repairs and maintenance.

1.5 Utilizes tools and equipment, including power tools according to established safety rules and requirements.

2. Reviews special, non-routine work requests with supervisor to evaluate feasibility, costs, time required, and priority.

3. Coordinates specialized work requests to be done by an outside vendor or contractor as directed by requester.

4. Performs various housekeeping, maintenance and repair duties to maintain safe and sanitary work conditions, including but not limited to:

4.1 Assists with pest control efforts.

4.2 Investigates reports of damage and/or break down of equipment/facilities to determine and correct cause.

4.3 Performs inspections, conducts tests, maintains required documentation, and/or coordinates repair for the following:

4.3.1 Emergency eyewash and deluge shower equipment on a regular basis, as required by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards.

4.3.2 Fire extinguishers, in accordance with HIOSH and local fire code requirements.

4.3.3 Departmental first aid kits at Central Lab.

4.4 Consults with Safety Officer as appropriate.

5. Identifies and analyzes problems; makes decisions and takes appropriate action(s).

6. Assists internal and external customers with questions, concerns, problems, etc.

7. Communicates relevant information to team members, supervisor and other appropriate people in a timely and appropriate manner.

8. Supports organizational performance and strategy by providing information and contributing to quality improvements, as appropriate.

9. Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with DLS safety policies and procedures. Reports unsafe actions/conditions and injuries to supervisor promptly.

10. Maintains a positive work climate and effective working relationships with internal and external customers.

11. Attends and/or participates in activities such as but not limited to meetings, required in-service programs, continuing education, and competency assessments.

12. Models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and shared values of the organization.

13. Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with company policies and procedures.

14. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DEMANDS

Communication Demands:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of internal and external customers.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, stooping/bending, climbing, squatting, and reaching above, at, and below shoulder level; requires using ladders in performing some tasks.
  • Requires frequent lifting/carrying loads up to 40 pounds and pushing/pulling heavy loads weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires driving to various company locations.
  • Requires wearing of personal protective equipment such as but not limited to safety goggles, masks, gloves, etc.

Typical Working Conditions:

  • Work environment includes conditions common to a hospital/laboratory environment; including working in the general vicinity of biohazardous materials, potentially harmful chemicals, and patients with communicable diseases.
  • Works in both indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor environment will expose employee to varied, hot, cool, wet, and humid climates.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited or certified training program in the trades, preferred.

Experience:

  • Two years’ experience in basic carpentry, electrical maintenance, plumbing, small equipment repair, and other trades.

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Other Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid State of Hawaii (or equivalent) motor vehicle license.
  • Must possess a current and acceptable traffic abstract.
  • Must have own basic hand tools.
