Housing Inspector

Salary: $39,520 - 45,716

DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas’ mission is to provide affordable, quality housing and access to supportive resources across the region. As a leasing professional at DHA, you play a key role in accomplishing the agency’s goals by helping clients access affordable housing. You will work with the assistant manager of housing services to interview, investigate and verify eligibility of clients for DHA Housing Voucher programs, maintain client files and respond to requests for information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect selected private market housing units for participation in the Housing Voucher Programs. Inspects units for compliance with building and construction codes, building plans and city regulations

  • Assesses the physical condition of sites, units, building systems and exteriors; records/report deficiencies and health/safety issues; notifies landlords and clients of inspection failures

  • Enter data into computer systems, maintain inspection records and associated filing systems

  • Collects and summarizes data and generates periodic reports

  • Perform administrative duties such as data entry, preparing and processing various documents and maintaining files

  • Explain the nature of DHA programs, procedures and services to clients while maintaining absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records and DHA information

  • Enthusiastically promote the President/CEO’s priorities for the operations of DHA

Knowledge and Skills for Success

A successful leasing professional has…

  • knowledge of DHA’s organization, operations, policies and procedures
  • knowledge of HUD HQS inspection procedures, residential/multi-family building codes, maintenance and health standard
  • knowledge of federal, state and local building codes and regulations, rules ordinances, zoning, housing and safety laws
  • knowledge of building construction methods and materials
  • strong communication skills, verbal and written

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of related work experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Housing Quality Standards Certification required within 6 months of appointment
  • Valid Texas State Drivers’ License required
