Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the manufacturing process development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for new and existing products. Evaluates and troubleshoots process issues focused on improving SQDCI. Leads manufacturing cost reduction projects and collaborates with the cross-functional team to ensure machining and assembly processes are low risk for safety and quality, efficient and at low cost.

 
Major Responsibilities
  • Lead and project manage the development, design and validation of existing and new manufacturing and assembly processes utilizing 3D solid-modeling, and world class manufacturing methods with a focus on employee safety, ergonomics, and lean concepts. Development should include consideration for direct labor differing language and skill capabilities.
  • Lead the Manufacturing Engineering effort in the NPI Stage Gate process by executing the following:
    • Experience in an Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) Role
    • Ensure manufacturing process accommodates final machining to achieve geometrical tolerances.
    • Determine manufacturing method and estimate setup/run times. (Takt time/cycle time analysis)
    • Support the Team’s efforts in the Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
    • Lead the Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
    • Develop control plans and inspection methods.
    • Define all materials, tooling, fixturing, adhesives, and methods of manufacturing, as needed and ensure safety and quality are taken into consideration throughout the process.
    • Create high quality standard work that reduces human error.
    • Apply GD&T as required to designs, and components drawings.
    • Strong CNC Machining Competency: CNC Mill, CNC Lathe, EDM, and grinding experience
    • Skilled in the application of Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma Methods.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial Engineering. Other engineering degrees considered. Masters Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a lead role in the manufacturing environment. Proven record of successful launch as it relates to new process introduction and planning efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Proven record of leading cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong 3D CAD skills, at least 2,000 hours of experience on Solidworks, ProE or other 3D package
  • Strong drafting and GD & T skills with the ability to perform tolerance stack up analysis.
  • Green Belt / Lean Manufacturing Certification Desired
  • Knowledge of magnetic materials and applications a plus.

  • Technical Competency – is a skilled and technically competent engineer.
  • Excellent manufacturing problem solving skills with extensive knowledge of DMAIC principles; uses rigorous logic and methods to solve problems producing effective solutions to problem statements. (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, SIPOC, etc…)
  • Excellent time management skills
  • High level of business acumen
  • Working knowledge with ERP/MRP (preferably Epicor)
