Position ~ K-12 Instructional Coach with Secondary Focus

SUMMARY
The Instructional Coach is responsible for facilitating change in instructional practices of teachers designed to increase teacher ability to diagnose student needs; plan more productively; and continuously increase teaching effectiveness at a secondary level.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Instructional Coach reports to the Executive Director of Instruction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • *Title 2a Funded (approximately 80%)
  • Disaggregates and analyzes data and assists principals and teachers in its interpretation to measure and improve student achievement and/or program effectiveness.
  • Establishes, maintains and enhances effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.
  • Works with principals and teachers in organizing grade level/department meetings in order to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of instructional program throughout the school and district.
  • Helps initiate the Instructional Coaching (IC) Team process into the district.
  • Supports teachers and the IST with the Dexter Instructional Framework.
  • Provides leadership for teachers by planning, collaborating, organizing, mentoring and facilitating change to improve the instructional program.
  • Provides knowledge of appropriate standards, content, materials, and resources.
  • Facilitates the use of research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the needs of teachers and school goals
  • Provides staff development needed to implement the district's school improvement plan by supporting the on-going training and development of the IC Team and facilitating professional development for staff members.
  • Performs other duties related to the improvement of student achievement.

General Fund Based (approximately 20%)

  • Observes teachers in their classrooms and offers insights for the enhancement of teaching-learning situations, through non-evaluative support.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction.
  • Provides support to students by supporting classroom teachers.
  • Follows all Board policies, state laws and regulations.
  • Provides support to other positions as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) to five (5) years teaching experience.
  • Training or interest in Personalized Learning and/or, Competency-Based Learning and/or, Mastery Learning and/or, Direct Interactive Instruction and/or, IB and/or, Inquiry-based teaching strategies and/or, or other related areas preferred.
  • Experience with learning management systems such as Summit, Canvas, and/or other learning management systems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Teaching Certificate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Knowledge, skill and ability in the use of e-mail, internet, power point, spreadsheets and word processing.
