Dewberry is currently seeking qualified applicants for the role of Staff Biologist/Environmental Scientist for our Rancho Cordova, CA office. The ideal candidate will be familiar with California flora and fauna, and have experience with biological field surveys, construction monitoring, report preparation, and regulatory permitting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys such as aquatic resources delineations, tree surveys, and habitat assessments.• Monitor construction projects and present environmental trainings.• Analyze and compile field data to assist with and prepare a variety of biological technical reports and related documents.• Use ArcGIS Pro to create maps and assess impacts.• Assist with and prepare local, state, and federal permit applications.• Coordinate internally with engineering staff on project design, scoping and construction details.• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Required Experience

• BS or BA in Biology, Natural Resources, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• 1-5 years of relevant professional experience, transportation emphasis a bonus.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with critical timelines.
• Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
• Proficient with MS Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel) and PDF software; use of ArcGIS Pro not required but strongly desired.
• Availability for periodic travel necessary to support field surveys and/or project meetings.
• Ability to perform field work under a variety of temperature conditions (e.g., heat) and challenging terrain (e.g., steep slopes).
• Competent in an office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, and with a combination of office work and field work.

Must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.

The projected range for this position is $62,000 - $72,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
