Area Assistant Director of Human Resources should have HR generalist knowledge, and be versed in the specific areas of payroll, training & development, benefits, workforce planning, recruitment and staffing strategies, wage and salary administration, colleague and labor relations, and local diversity initiatives. This highly visible role in partnership with the Area Director of Human Resources, assists in short and long-term planning of the HR function and is heavily involved in executing the HR initiatives and hotel goals. Hyatt strives to develop Area Assistant Directors to progress into the role of a Human Resource Director in the future. This is a salaried position ranging from $86,600.00 - $106,000.00 / year. (Decisions regarding individual salaries will be based on a number of factors, such as experience and education.).

Responsibilities / Duties:

Inspiring a service-oriented culture is one of the most critical roles for this position. In addition, this position will require a large emphasis on creating strategies to engage & retain talent that supports our goal of being the preeminent lifestyle/boutique destination in Oceanside. At a broad stroke, responsibilities fall into these key areas: (culture, whole person focus, general people and culture responsibilities)

  • Payroll for two properties
  • Assist with compensation, salary and wage administration
  • Training & Development
  • Develop HR strategies & administer HR policies and procedures
  • Assist with high level positions in terms of recruitment & staffing needs
  • Trusted advisor to our managers & colleagues on CA employment law and Hyatt policies
  • Colleague & labor relations
  • Assist to administer and manage Benefits programs, Workers’ compensation & Leave of Absences in partnership with our third-party administrators
  • Colleague engagement and retention
  • Colleague communications
  • Champion all Hyatt programs, including Hyatt Diversity and Inclusion programs
  • Community partner with local Oceanside businesses and sister hotels

Qualifications

  • 3 years or more of progressive HR leadership experience
  • 3 years or more of HR experience in hotel environment or hotel leadership experience
  • Preferred HR generalist experience
  • Require payroll & training experience
  • Preferred SHRM or PHR, HR certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent HR experience
  • Service-oriented with professional presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of CA employment law
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, proven track record in high volume concept, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service through a lens of care, and ability to improve the bottom line.
  • Refined clear & concise written and verbal communication
  • Preferred bilingual English / Spanish
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft office, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal & administrative skills
  • A true desire to satisfy the needs of our internal & external guests in a fast-paced environment.
