DESERT HEIGHTS CHARTER SCHOOLS is Hiring a Behavior Support Near Glendale, AZ

A successful behavior support position will require a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of the Behavior Team and students. The behavior coordinator works directly with the Behavior Team and students to support positive outcomes. The behavior support position is fluid day to day and is designed to support clerical needs, student supervision needs, and supervision coverage as outlined or determined by the Behavior Team.

This is a year-round position and may require working additional or flexible hours outside of the standard agreement hours as situations arise. The primary location this position will be at the 5-12 grade level prep campus located at 3540 W. Union Hills Dr., Glendale, AZ 85308.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with Behavior Team to support the continuation and implementation of a Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) and restorative practice systems with students and within our community and support the establishment a positive, structured, achievement-oriented, and creative positive school culture.
  • Primary support to Behavioral Coach and Behavior Team Lead. May be asked to support with low level student behaviors.
  • Engage in communication via email, phone, and in person with community members as needed.
  • Supports and reinforce the behavioral expectations and school culture standards are met inside and outside of the classroom while ensuring the room is a safe, organized, structured environment for students to seek and receive support.
  • Complete and report contact log daily entries from room traffic, observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of providing documentation and/or communicating information to the appropriate persons.
  • Enforces policies and procedures within our community including but not limited to behavior and dress code requirements.
  • Primary support in managing the uniform/supply closet.
  • Secondary support to school wide positive behavior incentive store. Requires daily management of student redemption of purchased items through Synergy systems, answering questions for community, etc.
  • Support as needed with additional supervision in areas such as assemblies, lunch areas, arrival/dismissal times, ensuring students are where they need to be, etc.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma equivalent, or higher
  • A valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • Ability to be trained in non-violent crisis intervention training, CPR training, and more.
  • Reliable and dependable
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure
  • Strong ability to problem-solving and problem analysis; critical thinking skills; conflict management skills
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with community members.
  • Skill in operating a computer/iPad, send and respond to emails and phone messages, utilizing a copier.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Focus on a systems-oriented approach to student, classroom, and school culture.
  • Strong organization, time management, and planning skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong interpersonal skills with community members
  • Personal qualities: passionate, compassionate, relentless work ethic, humility, positive in the present of challenges, patience, listening skills, supportive and growth mindset.
  • Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move desks, chairs, etc. up to approximately 15 pounds.

Knowledge of:

  • Applicable best practices when implementing behavioral interventions and classroom management systems.
  • Special Education Policy and 504 Plans and Procedures
  • Education Industry and Edupoint Educational Systems (Synergy), Naviance, Kronos, Office365, etc.
